Been working on a 78, 350/350/203. It's been sitting 6 years. drove it the other day no major problem I could tell. Until- I droped the tranny pan to change the filter/fluid. had metal shavings about a teaspoon full I guess. and a couple a BIG chunks. That said I figure its time to learn something new how to rebuild a tranny.

question is how many special tools am I going to need for this?

And a stupid newbie type question, do you guys prefer the mess or felt type filters.

Thanks

i rebuilt mine and it was my first one last year. Its wasnt too hard just have to keep everything organized and make sure that it goes back together exactly how it came apart.

You will need a pick, snap ring pliers, a J-tool to hold down the thrid clutch pack?? to get it out of the bottem of the case. I made mine out of steel, a nut, and a threaded rod to hold it down.

I would get a haynes manual and it shouldnt be too hard from there.
