Easier Locker

Whats an easier locker to install with minimal tools, one that replaces the carrier (detroit), or one that goes into the carrier (lockright)? looking forward to what would be easiest to install, anyone know from experience?

Any of the lunchbox lockers are going to be the easiest (Lockright, Noslip, etc.). If you have to replace the carrier (ARB, OX, Detroit full lockers), your looking at setting up the gears again. World of difference in simplicity.

sure, as long as you have selectable hubs for the street.

so whats the difficulty from worse to easiest between lunchbox locker, carrier locker, welded, spool, and mini spool?

welding isn't just busting out the mig and pouring some wire into it, to be done the right way the carrier has to be preheated and then tig welded and then either wrappe in a blanket to cool slowly or buried in special sand or put into a special oven, not that easy, better off getting a spool so it can be undone later

i'd say welding them properly is harder than setting up gears properly, but i have setup prolly 50 sets, nothing is really as cut and dry as it seems

B.S. --in a perfect world yeah, whatever, he is technically proper, but dont let him scare you.


if you mig weld the shit out of it, with good beads, use plenty of wire, and catch all the surface area you can, it will hold just fine. i have shattered ring and pinions, and twisted axle splines, and the 30 minute mig job i did has never failed.

to answer your question: 1.welded, follwed by 2.lunchbox and/or minispool, then 3. spool and/or carrier lockers

alright, whatever, it will look like a wad of shit and you just ruined your carrier and spiders, i would get a spool just to save the carrier in case you ever want to go back

and you won't really have good luck mig welding it, it really needs to be tig welded with preheating, but nigger rig it if you want to
