ok so like i'm working on theis 73 Cupe devill caddy at school (this thing is huge) it was donated to the shool. It has the 475 V-8. I took the rear wheel off to find a very wired rear diff I'll try to explane it
The first thing I noticed it has a drop out pinion like th 9" it has 12 bolts on the Bango plate and the pumken was way wired shaped quite inregular. The pinion WAS the loest part of the pumken and slightly off to the left
It has a LS of some sort probily power lok
This thing looked very stout I whould like to see the axel shafs cuz I'll bet there very beefy
and the over all size was huge
This was not 10 bolt or 12 bolt
might be worth looking into
thanks

I am not sure who made those Cad rear ends or what they are but they are not the same rear as the Eaton that came in GM pickups. They are not nearly that big. Thay are massive for a car though. I have on sitting around the shop that I can't figure out what to do with it. The only problems I see with using one in a 4x4 is that they are semi floating and the standard ratio is 2.73 and yes that is supposed to be a "2". They did have a really super low ratio in the limousines and hearses you could swap in though. A real 4x4 shouldn't need more than 3.21:1 anyway. :flipoff2:

I had a 64 sedan deville a long time ago and it had a drop out 3rd member type rear, not sure of much else about it. The fuckin thing held up good though, roll backs at 30 or so w/ a 320 HP 6500 lb car:eek: It may very well be a realtive of the eaton, semi float, tall gears (3.31 or higher if i remember right) the lug pattern was the same as lincoln MKV (think that it was 5 on 4.5 but not sure) I think it is around the same width as a fullsize chev, but that is just a guess. IF it will take eaton R+P it would make a helluva rear, and I think there was enough meat to the flange to drill it out for all lug patterns cept maybe 8 lug. Right now i am kickin around the idea of throwin a Cadilac 429 (early, heavy ass 10.5:1 compression, 320 HP. based on cadilac 390) out of a demo car ( 65 sedan deville) into the litle bro's heep, and it has one of those rears, so if I get a chance I will try to find out more about it.

Not sure on the early 60's Cads but the later ones had the chevy 2wd pickup pattern not the 5 lug car pattern. 5x5 I think.

Right, it has a removable pinion the same bolt pattern as the 14 bolt pinion is, at least from a glance with my tape measure. It has the same type pinion as the 14 bolt with the little stub for the 2nd bearing on the pinion. It also has a nice flat surface on top of it that is drilled and i think tapped. That would make for a nice point to mount something. I am curious as to what the axle is also, i had a chance to keep one but i let it go because i didnt know what exactly it was (although I did keep the removable pinion)
