This is a newb question but with no search feature I had to ask. I just purchased my so an 88.5 Samurai with no lift and 29" Super Swamper,s on it. I told him he could have my 30" tires once I put the lift on my Wrangler, but I think they will rub a lot. This will allow him to save the Swamper's for the trail and give him a good street tire.

He came to me with this idea about using front CJ springs and putting them in the rear of the Samurai, and taking the rear stock springs and placing them up front with some of the leafs from the front pack. This seams like a good idea, I have a set of CJ spring, we would just need some missing link shackles and a little fab work to install the CJ spring.

How much lift will this setup net? I can see an inch out of the shackle and maybe a little from the springs. Is this a mod worth doing, or should we just do a 2" reverse shackle setup?

Thanks, sorry for the newb question. I am a Jeep guy and I am trying to help him setup his rig, he does not have the money for making a bad choice.

I had this setup and it was like riding in log wagon beat me to death . Go straight to the yj springs and be done with it . I ran 32" on that setup could have probably fit 33's

I ran stock front CJ leafs in the rear spoa. They went flat in about 2 runs, so I took the main rear leaf, added the rest of the CJ leafs and put that in the front. Installed 5pak YJ leafs in the rear and never regretted it.

I also had this set up.

Better than stock springs but no comparison to YJs.

If you're gonna do it, my vote would be for YJs with missing links.

Personally, I like this set up. It's a little stiffer than YJ's, true, but I like the way it handles on the road. Lot less to fab to get them to fit too IMO. As long as you use front CJ's. I had more than enough lift for 33's as well.

Now, one of the guys in the club ran this and hated it. He was always complaning how stiff a ride it was. SO, I guess it's up to your personal taste.

Thanks for all the replys, this is for my 16 year old son. I think we will give this a try. Should I run missing link shackles front and rear, or missing links in the front with longer shackles in the rear?

Front and rear but it's up to you.

You and your son can knock this mod. out in a weekend. Just get the brakelines, slip yokes, etc. and you should be fine.

Good luck .
