Some guy wants to sell me a 79 F-250 for 700. It runs fine, but the cab is all smashed from a rollover. That a good deal for the dana 60 axles under it?

that is a great deal as long as you are putting them under a ford

F-250's had 44 fronts for the most part. Be sure of what your buying.

Agreed...

Look at the TOP of the knuckles......

If you see 4 bolts, buy it!!! If you see a SINGLE bolt...offer him $500 cash, and see if he takes it.

I am told that some F250's of that era came with d60's in the front....not sure what the distinction is. BUT, look at the webbing, I believe it should still be on the drivers side, there should be a 60 cast into the webbing between the diff. and the axle housings, or you can look for the king pins.

I thought that was the year they used the d44 heavy duty for the snow fighter set up for a plow and stuff..... I could be wrong but I believe that is where my buddy got his from and it was a heavy sucker the tubes are .5" thick on a 44

how common it is to have a 60 under the front seems to be geographicly dependent.
If it has a 60 up front, $700 is fair, if it doesn't, it's pretty much worthless..

So why would the 44 be worthless? I'm looking for axles to swap into a jeep.

Cause these guys are hard core. And most would say you aint gonna be gettin it with a 44 :D

BTW I think thats a bit expensive if its just a 44. Up here in Wa. we can get 44's at pull a part yards for under 150 bux and rear 60's for about the same. Plus then you dont have a scrap truck to pay to get rid of or part out.

That is a bit steep if it is just a 44. You can come down here to ABQ to the pick and pull and get a 44 front and a 60 rear for $100 each and not have to deal with getting rid of the rest of the truck.

Albuquerque Auto Recyclers on Broadway, its the only Pick and Pull that I know of in town. Its on the east side of Broadway a bit south of Rio Bravo. Its off the road a bit, but you can see the big yellow sign from Broadway, it says "U Pull, U save"
Not APD, I'm the Sniper Team Leader for BCSO SWAT, also a Homicide Detective

Cool I saw that last weekend when I was down there. I'll check it out. Thanks for the tip. Wow.. Sniper Team Leader. Guess you can out shoot just about everyone in the state :) I used to do voulenteer work with APD when I was down there at UNM. Most fun I ever had in my whole life. Done a couple of ride-a-longs with BCSO. The code 3 run from the area command on fourth to a polish hostage out in the middle of nowhere was the best. I rode with a guy named Imi Neel.

Sweet! I used to be on the site when I lived down in ABQ. I haven't been down to ride with those guys in quite a while. I need to come down this summer once I get my front locker fixed and go wheel the puerco again.

That is a killer deal if you have 60's under the truck. look at it, chances are it could be a 60 if you got lucky. For $700 that is a steal for teh complete truck. If dana 44 front, offer the guy $500 like mentioned above, take the axles, possibly tranny and t-case and sell the rest of the truck to recoup some of the cash ;)
