: Atlas II Shift Pattern Indicator

Atlas II Shift Pattern Indicator

One would think that something that costs as much as an Atlas II would come with a shift pattern indicator.

Well, this obviously bothered me, so I made my own.

If you care to use this please feel free. I printed mine out on a transparency film, using an Ink Jet Printer. (A laser printer would work as will.)

Why?

Well I sized this so it can be cut and trimmed and then snap right in place on the rear view mirror.

Trace your mirror size on a piece of paper and cut the transparency slightly bigger then what you traced.

There is a grove between the mirror and the frame that holds the mirror. The transparency will slip right into this grove and be held in place. (Watch out for your finger prints on the back side of the transparency.)

Here is a jpg picture which you can save if you care to have this.

( Right Click>Save Picture As..)

There are three flavors,

Color
Monographic with shading
Monographic with no shading

If someone is in a real pinch here and would like to have this but has no means of printing on transparencies, send me an email with your address.

I have about ten sheets of transparencies left. I'd be happy to bail you out (while supplies last).

email.id@worldnet.att.net

Here the jpg file.

http://home.att.net/~email.id/atlassshift.jpg

Enjoy,

Frank

PS: If you do not like the idea of mounting this to the rear view mirror it fits nicely on the windshield just above the mirror too.

PSS: Yes I feel no need to justify making this, I just wanted it! Do you? :)

Is it really????? I don't think so!!! But I have been known to be wrong.

How about you? Ever wrong? :) Maybe now?

Each of the two knobs has the sift "position" engraved for H, N, and L.

The pattern is the "combination" of each shifter's position which will result in any of the available modes.

I guess I wasn't very clear on that.

Sorry

you mean you can't figure out the "combination" by looking at the "positions" engraved on the knobs?????

Hi Brian,

I think what I said was

"Yes I feel no need to justify making this, I just wanted it!" :)

Perhaps some others would like it too.

I don't know. It's out here to use if one should choose. If not that's fine too! Life is simple! :)

when you purchased the atlas, u should have received some black knobs with your little digram on them, white letters on a black knob, its not that hard to see, plus i dont think a chart is neccesary, every wheeler should know how their vehicle operates, if you cant figure it out in a few simple flicks of the wrist you are :smokin:

Hi YJ_Swamper,

I would agree this isn't rocket science.

Guess I feel every piece of equipment (or machinery) should have it's "control patterns" documented or displayed in plan view.

But that's just me and I am getting old and senile.

You know one of these days I am going to figure out how to do those fancier smiley faces. So for now I will send the only one I know how to do.

:)

Hi Keith,

Nope!

I just checked with myself. I wasn't kidding you!

As it turns out I had 17 transparent foils left.

15 are currently spoken for by requests of other Jeepers. That means I have 2 left.

Do you have an Atlas II? (If you say yes, you know what my next question is going to be?)

Oh I will just go ahead and ask it.

Would you like a shift pattern indicator to go along with your Atlas II ?

If so shoot me an email with your address and I will get one right out to you.

I certainly would agree with you that this post isn't exactly of a highly technical or complex nature, but it seems to be useful to some.

I would think that is goodness, don't you?

On the technical topic, I would be very interested in reading any of your technical write-ups.

Especially any that demonstrate "original thought" on your part or your efforts "to explain" complex matters in a way that someone like myself could understand.

Please, please feel free to post in this thread any links to your work.

There are just so many folks having "pinnacles of relatively modest knowledge", it would be my pleasure to learn more from a technical guru like yourself.

I am anxious to read your technical work.

Have a great day. :)

Thanks for validating the answer I was expecting to get!

Original Thought! :)

PS: Did you want your own Atlas II Shift Possition Indicator?

For the record.......

1. No I do not want your stupid fuckin shift indicator. I am smart enough to figure out any and all combinations on my Atlas II without a personal guidebook. (although sometimes I get confused between F and R on the knobs  )

2. I have no need to justify myself to you. I have never pretended to be the MOST technically literate person here. In fact, I admit openly I dont know half of what some people here do, maybe  even you. However, I have built my Junk, only had certain things done for me, and understand every aspect to what has been done. I dont need to write up reports and tech articles and other bullshit to impress you.

3. This post is retarded, and I gave you shit for it, DO NOT misunderstand that as an attack on your technical knowledge or ability.

Hello Again Keith,

And thank you for your thoughtful reply.

Like you, generally when I write or say something, it is for the record too.

Kinda defines over time or at least gives an indicator over time who we all are.

Don't you think?

OK, I fully understand you wouldn't like your own Atlas II Shift Position Indicator.

You are absolutely right Keith, you need not justify yourself to me or anyone. However I am quit sure you do have many things of value to add. Perhaps we all do from time to time.

I understand you feel this post is retarded. I also understand that is the reason you decided to jerk my chain.

But please don't find it surprising that I then jerked your chain right back!

After all, I received the idea and materials from your sig which says;

"If you don't like the flaming going on here! Go try to find some Tech somewhere else!"

Have a great day Keith, Peace! :)

PS: I find that little guy crouching down with the blue face, skinny legs and incredibly swollen knees entertaining!

Bwahahahaha, I have tears in my eyes, from laughing so hard.
Geeze the knobs are engraved.
The last thing I need in my rig is to decorate like the factory, with a warning or instruction on how to use everything including the ashtray.
I guess AA figures that if you have advanced to the point that you need an Atlas II, that you should be able to figure out how to shift it.
Hell I like the idea that no one can climb into the cockpit of my rig and even figure out how to start it.
I just tell anyone who wants to drive it, to keep hitting switches untill all the lights are green then hit the starter button,(oh wait, one of the lights has to red before it will start).
To each his own, I guess, and I sure enjoyed the laugh durring a hectic morning.

Hey Mr. H8,

How are you today my friend?

Glad you are enjoining this. But I have to ask.... What's the red light for? :)

Hi RokHeep,

My mother may have raised an idiot at times, but not a total fool.

I don't think I would want to get Keith or anyone else ticked at me.

withamc,

I guess you could say that, but Major Rogers would be more accurate. Then again, does that mean I have to wear a sweater?...........

Hmmmmm..........

Na......

Lets just keep it to Frank. :)

Hey RokHeep, I have a question for you.

Is it Klune-V meaning the Alphabet Letter "V"?

or is it

Klune-V meaning the Roman Numeral 5?

Also;

Any particular color scheme you would like for the shift pattern?
