I'm swapping a 91 AX-15 onto my 97 4.0. The pilot bearing that was in the clutch kit for the 91 transmission did not fit in the end of my crankshaft. I bought a pilot bearing for a 97, but its to big for the transmission's input shaft. What would be the best way to make the original pilot bearing fit into my crankshaft? The pilot bearing is just hair to big. I don't want to justt go up there and haphazardly ream it out and then throw the crank off balace. Any suggestions?

Is this going into an engine that had an auto tranny previously? If so, see the above thread concerning pilot bushings.

Maybe have a machine shop machine the pilot bearing from the 91 kit to fit the crank, that's assuming that the 91 bushing is too big to fit the crank pilot hole. You can take along the 97 pilot bearing and tell the machinist that you need the O.D. of the 91 bushing turned down to the O.D. size of the 97 bushing. Or have the machinist make you a new bushing with the I.D. of the 91 bushing and the O.D. of the 97. If you were closer I would do it for you.
