I have a 71 FJ-40 with a 351W and a np435. I just finished puting it together and now the alternator isnt charging the battery. I have a brand new alternator and external voltage regulator. Acording to 2 different repair manuals i am 99% sure that i have everything wired corectly but the alternator still doesnt seem to be doing anything. i have to drive it to the shop tomorow so i can put some exhaust on it so i have to figure this out ASAP.

Thanks Michael

Are you sure the regulator is getting 12 volts from the key? The regulator won't tell the altenator to charge without this 12 volt input. I'd say that is the most common reason for failure.

BTW, I agree. Go with a G3 alt. I got one that is rewired for 175 amps of output.
