I came up with this problem, I couldn't get my shocks to work with the RE long arm kit. I just couldn't get the flex that I wanted with stock RS9000. So I chopped the eyes off and machined some tube to accept the heim joints, and cut some cir-clip groves and welded them on the shocks. Now when I get them mounting them I will post some pic's to show just how much heim ends on a shock make all the difference in the world. Who sez that you have to pay big dollars the have shocks with heims.:D

DesertCJ, I used to race an off road Desert car and had some old fox shox laying around, took the heim out of them. They were the wrong length or I would have used them. You can buy them from any Fox shox retailer.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. Looks killer and prolly works good too. I bet they cost my left nut from a Fox dealer though:rasta:

I was thinking about this idea too, mine would not be as nice looking though,
i was just going to weld a threaded heim to the end of the shock, this way it would kind of look like bilstien, just uglyier, but i cheaped out and build some dumb ass swils for it instead

Nope, not a johnny joint. I took them out of a set of Fox off-road shox's that I had.

Those look to be ordinary snap-ring spherical bearings. You can get the bearings in almost any bore that you want from hardware/industrial supply places for $10-15. Or you can get high mis-alignment spherical bearings for around $25.

why not just turn your shock mount 90°? Probably would have been just as effective.

I did try moving the shock 90 deg. and it stil wouldn't work that good. With the RE long arm kit, the rear axle moves up to 8 inchs back and foward, not to mention side to side.

All righty, a few ?'s for y'all. First, what are the advantages of heims over the poly bushings? I've noticed on the race shocks that they use heims, but have never asked. Any disadvantages? Two, welding on the body of the shock? I'd be stupid to ask if safe since you've done it, what are some tricks and tips doing this and what shouldn't I do when welding? Or am I just being paranoid? No danger of super heating the body and having it blow up?
