Hi there everyone, new member here, glad to join.

But really, I have a question. Looking at the engine in my 1990 Pathfinder 4x4and comparing it to the 2wd version, I seem to think the only real difference is the oil pan, for clearance around the front driveshaft. So, time for the question.

Is the only real difference between a 2wd and 4x4 engine the oil pan, or is there more to worry about such as motor mounts not lining up etc.?

I guess to put it more in a nutshell, will the motor from a 2wd fit in my Pathy 4x4 with only minor (or no) modification?

If it seems this is a really dumb question, sorry, I just made the switch from a Ford truck and this is the first bit of Japanese metal I have ever owned.

Thanks guys,
Nate

My motor is from a 2wd, I didnt do any mods to it to make it fit, I did do the exhaust studs and other crap like the water pump while it was on a stand. It should work fine for you.

The oil pickup tube should be different also.

I think the 2wd pathys are the same, mine oil pan was the same as on my 4x4 motor that I pulled.

how dare you steal my name.....

And yes, you should be able to swap 2wd and 4wd engines, but the ECU is most likely different.

Well, I found an engine. Out of a two by and thanks to the knowledge presented here, it is all mounted and ready to fire tomorrow morning after the exhaust is bolted up.

Lastly, nice to meet another Nate (there's not too many of us you know:) )
