I've been looking for a clutch inspection cover for my SM420 for weeks. This is the sheetmetal cover that bolts to the bottom of the bell housing. I haven't found any... and I've talked to several people along the way who are also searching for the same part.

I ended up buying an inspection cover for a Saginaw transmission used on Chevy trucks of from the 60ies through the 90ies. I found it on Ebay and paid $45 after shipping. It is a new part, and the seller was a parts department at a Chevy dealer on the east coast. The part arrived today, and I'm thrilled with it. It will fit with VERY little modification. I'll need to trim away just a little bit of it, where it contacts the engine block. Also 3 of the 4 bolt holes line up... and the 4th is only 1/8" off.

I'm passing this information along for all you out there trying to track down this hard to find part. The GM part number on it is 0371447, and GM calls is an 'underpan.' Hope this helps some of you.

Thanks wilson

I wonder if the dealers still carry this part or not.

Just speculating... but I'd guess they still sell it. It had a GM Goodwrench lable on it (which hasn't been around forever), so I don't think its old stock they're clearning out. Also their ebay ad stated that the part is still in use on some 90ies Chevy pick ups.
