Transmissions

I am interested in the different tranny's that came in Isuzu'a in the US, and how similar they are to the Toyota and jeep trannies. Is there anywhere that has a guide, or someone I can talk to about these things? I'm interested in both auto's, and manual trannies. Also, what's up with the T-cases? Are these things more like a dana style T-case, or like a toy?
