Working on my dana 44/dana 60 axle swap. Need to measure for the tie rod and drag link. What is the correct way to measure for it? My Jeep is a YJ and I'll be using a high steering set up with the avalanche hi steer TRE arms and the stock pitman arm reamed to fit the 1 ton tie rod end. The front axle will be 61.74" long wms's.
Avalanche said something like I have to turn the wheel to the left and count the rotations/clicks and divide it by two and repeat for the other side, etc., but how can I do that if I have no tie rod or drag link built yet? Kind of wasn't paying attention because of the math involved....
Center your front wheels and measure the distance between your steering arms where you TREs will mount. That is your total distance for your tie rod.
Center the steering wheel and pitman arm and measure the distance between the pitman arm and the pass side TRE mounting location. That is your total distance for your drag link.

Tried it that way, drag link came up long! Could turn all the way to one side and would run out of steering box the other way. the steering arm in my 92 YJ w/ 4.0 is not visually centered, off set some. Turn the wheels and the steering wheel all the way to one direction and then measure it.

Thats why you have to manually FIND the center of the steering by turning the wheel back and forth to determine where centered is ;)

Just did this on my friends rig. Wait til you get the Avalanche arms mounted. Their arms are machined and angle in toward the center of your rig. My buddy ordered his draglink and tie rod before he mounted the arms and they are too long. Save yourself some money and headache by mounting the arms, figuring out what holes you are going to use (3 holes on the arms to choose from), and then measure for your draglink and tie rod (center to center).
