I know a guy parting out a 1972 dodge pick-up. I'm thinking about grabbing the transfer case for my YJ. Can anyone comfirm that this would be a Dana 300? Any idea what the ratio would be? the motor is a slant 6. Not sure if it was a w-100, 200 or 300.
The rear end looks like a Dana 20. it is spring over. Anyone know the wms to wms measurement?
Front end is also spring over. Pasanger side drop. Drum brake. Any idea what axle this is? D44? What would the market be for this axle?
Thanks
Frank
T-Case should be an NP205. Rearend is either a Chrysler 8.75", 9.25" or a Dana 60 if it is a 3/4 ton truck. Front axle is a D44.

I don't have the 72 Parts Manual here handy but I don't think anything would be mechanically different from the 73 and up models. In which case it would most likely be a NP205 divorced transfer case, which sort of kills putting it in a short wheelbase rig. If it's a half ton it'll be a Chrysler Corp. 8 3/4 rear and a D44 front. If it's a 3/4 ton, it'll have a D60 rear and either the D44 front or possibly the rarer D60 front.
EDIT: Eh, that's what I get for typing slow...

So the 8 3/4 rear looks like a Dana 20? This rear has a smooth round rear with no cover. The third member bolts to the front of the housing.
The transfer case looks like a 300. It is way shorter than my 231.

Yes, that is an 8 3/4". It is very similar to a Ford 9" and only slightly less durable in my opinion. It's a good rear that was found behind 99% of the big block Mopar muscle cars of the 60s and 70s, so it will take some punishment. I have on in my 74 W100 behind a decent 383 big block and NP435 5 speed with no issues. In my opinion it is twice the axle of the later 9 1/4". I doubt seriously if it's a D300. To my knowledge dodge didn't use a D300 in any of these trucks.
I'll go to bat for the 8 3/4" as well. Story my dad told me that I will never forget...
Had a '71 Duster with a 340 in it...when he was a young guy...used to drop the clutch at 7k rpm. When he finally decided to take the rearend apart just to check it out, he found the splines on the axles had actually twisted a 1/4 or more turns, but they never broke. He was a poor young kid like I am now, and couldnt afford new axles so he put them back in. He never did have a problem with that rearend, and ended up selling it with the car a couple years later...after more 7k rpm drops! :) HAHA. Like Elwenil, they were behind a ton of big block mopar muscle cars...only thing they werent under as standard equipment would be a Hemi 4 spd. car, which were all factory Dana 60 rearends I believe.

Except for the early cars and a few other oddities that had the Super Track Pak, you are correct.

Not to hijack the thread, but what type of axles would be under a 76 Power Wagon W200? sorry for the crappy question.

D60 rear and either the D44 front or the occasional D60 front.
