Okay so I found out I have some electrical issues. My alternator is over charging my battery and if the battery isn't connected the bronco dies. So here is the run done. I got the engine out of a school bus. the alternator came with it and was bigger and beefier than my stock alternator( which didn't work anyway) the new alternator doesn't have an internal regulator like the stock one(at least I don't think so) so I bought a 78 ford external and wired that in. Well like I said I found out this weekend that it is all wired like sh!t. There are two small wires coming of the alternator and one large one. The way it is wired now the alternator charges the battery but it is always around 16-17 and the battery overheats. So can any give me a run down on the proper way to wire an alternator?

Get an electric fan and run the headlights all the time.

sounds like a genrator, not and alt, but, I would bet the Ford reg, can not put with the larger genrator.
Man, I can't remember how to wire one right now, but I think its the stator wire on yours that is sticking on.
If it were mine, I junk it all and get a 1 wire GM alt.

I ended up having the same issues...it was after a swap like what you did...I ended up going with the newer internal regulated one..after swapping several alts and several external regs...
the newer ones are easy to wire...after I installed it..never had anymore problems...I think it was something to do with a bad ground somewhere in my system..

When I swapped bodies on my rig, I had the same problem. I looked at the wires for the external regulator and said, screw figuring out how to wire this thing up, and went with a Delco 12SI unit. They are suppose to be superior anyway.
