With a bit of work, you cna use the stock smog pump bracket and make that pump work........or I think from the looks of your pix it will work with the MAF bracket

I used that bracket, but it requires the early long neck chevy pump. You can get that from any parts place. Then I went and got a 2 groove pulley from the chevy dealership to use too. IIRC, I have the p/n's down at my buddies where I keep the cruiser. Hope that helps some.

Yeah the early long neck style. There's a couple different styles out there. Ask the counter guy to flop open his book, and look for the early long oval style. I'll see if I can round up those p/n's for ya tomorrow. I also have the pressure hose # I used that all you have to do is open up the 90* end a little.

I used atsco 7095 pump 93 chevy truck 1 return line
motor mite pully 300-122
42263 crome universal alt arm bracket... "performance section" this and above from auto zone
marks bracket (from mark of course)
georg's bracket and made scab plates that were the Butch Built style with the 4 bolt 4 trn box
all the shaft stuff from kurt at cruiser outfitters
and still looking for a flat 7 pitman arm thats less than $1oo.

Look at the late model Wagoneers from the 70's. I have a 77 wagoneer pitman arm, that is 7"s long with a 1/2" drop.

Thanks, didnt know about thaT! I think I can get away with the 1/2 drop.

What bracket are you useing ?

I think you really have three options (not including of the chev 6 bracket tho)

the maf style which you have to unbolt 2 head bolts but does adjust out of the box

marks bracket--my tensioner i made was like $10. i couldnt be happier.

william dory's bracket. seems like a tensioner is included, but i've never really seen it in person or up close but there are some pics here: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/wdorry/my_photos his e-mail is wdorry at yahoo.com

Get the hoses with ends on it if possible. You will need the ends when you make your hydraulic hose.

I have done this two different ways.

On a '72 FJ40 I used the complete power steering pump and brackets from a '73 IH scout. It was easy to fab up because the scout bracket is real simple. For the steering box I used one from a late 70's jeep pickup.

On a 78 FJ40 I was able to modify a Chevy S10 power steering pump & brackets to work in the old location of the smog pump. For that conversion I used the matching ps box.

Both swaps required me to have custom hoses built. Fortunately we have a tubes & hoses distributor right here in my small town.

You'll have to change that serpentine pulley to another press-on pulley that uses a v groove belt. The aluminum pulley from MAF will not work as it is a bolt-on pulley that uses a key and nut to hold it in place. The GM pump came in two different shaft configurations. One uses a pressed on pulley and the other uses a bolt-on pulley that is keyed to prevent rotational slippage. There are also two different mating configurations for the high pressure output port. One is 45 flare and the other is metric o-ring.

Sorry to get to this so late, I was entirely to busy to gather all the paperwork together. So here's what I've got for you or maybe the next cruiser head:

Power steering 2f bracket number from BTB Products(Actually bought it from Advance Adapters) AA p/n#716842, BTB p/n# 40-4152
You can use any saginaw kit, I bought mine from AA, but in the future would get 1 from Orangefj45(Georg);) AA p/n# 716839
The pump I got from Kragen, but any supplier can cross their p/n, p/n# 206084. It's the long neck oval style.
Based on what steering column you use(I used a Ford 3/4 double D) I got the following collapsible shaft from AA, p/n#716862 w/ the univ. joint 3/4dd p/n# 716849.
The double groove pulley I used I bought direct from the Chevy dealership, p/n# 3941107
The pressure hose I used I got from Kragen as well, Powercraft p/n# 70273. Keep in mind, I had to open the bends on each end a little. Otherwise, it came out perfect.
My belt runs around the alternator/ water pump/ crank/ and then the power steering pump. Napa Premium XL Belt 25 p/n# 7520
I'll get pics of all this later if needed,

Thanks for the list, Only thing I need now is ummm

Steering shaft, belt (I think im going to run it from the crank to water to pump), and a hose

AS for the things idk yet is what kind of tie rod to use and pitman arm

Eric

Steering shaft, like I mentioned, I got mine from Advance Adapters. I'm sure there are probably other vendors around that'll have it, but that/'s where I bought it from.
Belt, take a string and run it around all the pulleys. Make sure that the power steering and so forth are not fully adjusted out for tension. That way you could always tighten up on them. Take that string into your local parts place and get the right belt. Also make sure to get the appropriate v-groove thickness. Maybe take another older belt w/ you for this.
Hose, I gave you the number for that. Like I mentioned though, I opened up the bends a bit to make it work. For that, my buddy has a tubing bender for brake lines and such.
I used a jeep pitman arm and had a local shop re-tap my link to fit. Then the guy sleeved the whole arm to make it more stout. Check my build thread in the initial pictures at the start for what I'm talking about.
You should consider a cooler, Orangefj45 has a pretty trick style that he sells. Havn't tried them yet, I run el-cheapo from Man-A-Fre. Still it helps.

Good luck, you're almost there,

Ya heres what i got from my pitman arm it has a 2 in drop, its 7 1/2 long. the hole for the tie rod is 1 1/2 mm, and the stock one is about 1 1/4 mm soo what do I need to do for tie rod. I dont think im going to use that pitman arm (I think is to much drop, I only have a soa)

Edit: and I pick up one of does man-a-fre coolers as well

get some cutting oil and dont hold the drill too tight when you drill your cross member. ask me how I know. i used my buddies milwaukee and with a 3" hole saw its pretty brutal--go slow.

Or you could always use a Hole Hawg w/ a hole saw. That I know about. Just make sure yet again to take it slow and oiled. If you could, use the side handle piched up against the frame rail. That way it wouldn't spin your wrist off.
