: HP Dana 60 Gears

I have a high pinion reverse rotation 78 Ford Dana 60. I currently have 5.13 ring and pinions. I have a ff 14 bolt rear at the moment so that's the ratio I'm limited to.

What lower(numerically higher) gears are available for my front axel? And what rear axel would you reccomend I switch to when the time comes. I have 46" tires and about 350 horsepower. But I'm plannin to supercharge. I have a built 700R4.

My main problem is my torque converter is getting real hot. I just put a trans temp guage so I can prevent further tranny problems.

....advice?

Dana 70 for raw strenght. A Dana 60 for better clearence, but you'll spend alot more money in up grades on a D60 to get the added toughness of bigger shafts, carrier and such.

What about the Sterling 10.25"?

5.13s are as low as I have seen.

yukon has 5.38 high pinion 60 gears I think.

Yukon does have them as that is what I have. And I believe 5.38's are the lowest available.

5.38 as said before.

5.13's to 5.38's would make no real noticable difference.
Leave the axles alone, and get a tranny/t-case setup with better gearing.

Leave the axles you have alone. If you havent done it yet, add a huge giant assed tranny cooler, maybe a bigger pan too. Find the largest one you can fit behind your grille. An inline filter with a pressure guage and bypass valve is good insurance. If your torque converter fails, or you filter becomes plugged with crap, it will catch all of the crap before it circulates back into your transmission, the guage will (within reason) tell you how much restriction is in the filter (and when to change it) and the bypass filter is there when you are dumb and dont change the filter, it wont stop up the lines. Where do you have your guage sending unit located? I would put it in the pan if you have it elsewhere, this way it will tell you the overall temp, instead of only one area. If you keep having heat problems with your torque converter, you might look into getting a high performance super heavy duty RV style converter with a low stall speed. Or just put in a built 4L80E instead of punishing a 700R4.

Right, no real gain.
You can switch to a low pinion Dana 60 and get some 7.17's though.

Just curious, but has anyone ever heard of someone machining custom gear sets?

I do have an in-line cooler on my tranny, but I just added a deeper pan with cooling tubes after I rebuilt my tranny. I haven't got to test this out yet. I haven't installed my trans temp guage yet. But its an autometer and has the inline sender.

Does anyone offer a 4:1 gearset for a driverside drop t-case?

Don't want to drop the cash for an Atlas right now.
