I'm looking at buying a powerstroke. There is a certain one in particular. It is a 96 f250 with a 5spd but I have a couple of engine questions?
-it has swamp donkey 150cc injectors as well as a diesel site chip with 4 stages. I wouldn't assume the chip would change reliability engine wise but I was wondering about the injectors? Would the engine be less reliable?
It has 137,000 miles and 37" swamps. Any info would be appreciated as well as what to look for when buying a powerstroke.
Thanks:D

We burned up a stock '04 6.0 with the banks six gun set on two, so yes, it could be a problem if the guy (or you) has a heavy foot. With that many miles and large tires, your are IMHO running a pretty big risk of at least buying a smoked tranny. See if he's had the trans rebuilt or aleast recalibrated for the bigger tires.

I run 175cc injectors in mine. 130k when I put them in, 160k now. No issues so far. I also have a 6 pos chip with 2 WILD programs....But plan on a good clutch for that truck.
Check the www.dieselstop.com forums and FAQ. Lots of OBS PSD info there! Including A LOT of guys running Swamps stuff.

south bend makes some killer clutches that will be able to take anything you dish at them. but they get pricey.

thanks for the reply's. The truck happens to be a 5spd but I don't think the tranny has ever been rebuilt. Do you think 10 grand is a fair price for this truck 96 extended cab shortbed XL? Thanks

down in texas most of the standard, 4x4 powerstrokes go for around 12 grand no matter what mileage, i personally would try to bring the person down some on the price but if thats the truck you are set on and the guy wont go down on price then id go for it, especially with only have 137k on the odometer.
