I've got an opportunity to pick up a 74 CJ5 for 6 bills Canuck buck with no motor in it. What I need to know is what came in them stock (motor, t'case, diffs, tranny). This is one of those farmer's field kind of opportunities (except that it was in a barn). Apparently the rest of it is complete and in good condition.
I know it's kind of a dumb question but my knowledge is newer jeeps and suzuki's so help a brother out.
thanks in advance

Well I guess since you are on of da brothas, They came with a d30 open knuckle front axle with drum brakes, and a flanged d44 rear axle, with an average ratio of 3.73. The tranny would be a 3sp. and the t-case was a married d20 and the engine options for that time were 304 v8, and 258 I think. :D Weakest frame ever made from jeep with the most problems being cracks with its boxing only at the engine compartment. I would say unless rusty buy it and build from there.
Thanks Wheelnjp!
Now about finding a good 304... ;)

Weakest frame HAHAHAAHAH
Actually no its no the weakest, 72 71s were the weakest with no boxing at all, Frame was boxed from the rear front spring hangers forward.
3.73 or 4.11s D44 flanged rear, d30 open knuckle, 11 inch drum brakes, 304/t15/d20 or 258/t14/d20
Not much more to it then that.

According to Jeeptech.com (http://www.jeeptech.com/axle/d30.html) the front axle is 53" wide. Lots of good info there.

Hey Dumb, is that the jeep that James has? I looked at it last week. It's solid, rust free frame and original paint on the tub. Has a D30 front, D44 rear, D20 t-case, and a 3 speed, as well as factory hard top and doors. Have you done a title search? James doesn't have any papers on it.

Hmmm, I thought the change occured with the introduction of the D30, I know the D27s and D25s were only 50-51". I'll have to measure the two narrow track D30s I have, pretty sure one of them is pre '75. You sig says you have a '74, have you ever measured yours?
