I'm in the market for a few gas bottles. I found a place in Ohio that has great prices but I think shipping will kill me.

These guys sell a 250 Cu.FT (51"x 9") cylinder that is fully reconditioned for 88.00 my local welding store wants 205.00!
Anybody know a cheap place in cali? TIA

I just bought new cylinders yesterday. I just went down to Airgas in Dublin (there is one in Stockton). A standard 1-A cylinder cost me $130 and some change. The reason I went with them is that even though I purchased the cylinders they work on an exchange policy for filling and they take care of the testing and all that. If I change my set up they will also change the valving at no additional cost. So, yes the price is a little high but I figure I will save in the long run. Also, Airgas has locations all over so I can go where ever to get my gas (Dublin, Stockton, Modesto). Hope that helps.

I shopped all over Stockton, Modesto, Lodi yesterday . Air Gas quoted me a 125 CuFT for $130.00. I'm not sure what a 1-A tanks is?
Is this what you got
Specifications:
• CGA-580 (Argon, Helium, Nitrogen) Valve
• Outside Diameter: 7.0 Inches
• Length (Height): 43.00 Inches
• Weight: 58.0 lbs.
• Service Pressure: 2265 PSI
I think the CGA-580 valve is the industry standard and I'm not sure by what you mean by changing set up?

That is the tank that I got. I found them really cheap on the net but I also found that the shipping would kill the deal. In regaurds to changing setup some of your really, really old victor regulator use a different size valve.

check www.ups.com for a shipping quote. It can't weigh that much. Seems as though $20 would cover it.

I highly recomend welding on cylinders!:flipoff2: O2 would be good and when you weld it make sure you have an open Hydrogen and Acetylene bottle nearby!
Good Luck and let us know how it turnes out!:D

I paid 180.00 for a 150 cubic foot tank with a blank ring (no markings to indicate where it came from). This included 1 free fill so I went with a 75% argon, 25% CO2 mix. I think this is a fair deal.
Also, be warned that some places will not fill your cylinder unless it has been tested so it is a good idea to buy locally. Makes exhanging cylinders much easier.
Here is another tip: One of the oldest scam in the welding business is the swapping of your own (purchased ) cylinder with a rental cylinder. If you happen to exhange your cylinder when you get it refilled, be sure they don't give you an rental cylinder.
Without proof of purchase (receipt), you've now lost a cylinder.
