So i just bought a rear end for my XJ and thought i had bought a d60, well i get home and check it and find out its a d61 :mad3: . Now i see they only make 3.54's and 4.10's only for the 61 and there is no aftermarket out there for them. The reason i would like to use the rear end is cause its a HD. Now i am buying a d44 and d60 from my neighbor now and want to know if i can swap the non HD into my HD housing?? Anyone know the big difference between the 60 and 61?? Can i turn the housing into a 60 axle? :smokin:

Dana 60 and 61 have different housings, ring and pinions don't swap.

-yes I know about the deal with running a 4.10 Dana 60 carrier in a 61... but for this app... Nope.

Also the 61 has more gears than just two. :flipoff2:

aCTUALLY a 60 gear will go into a 61 however u will have to have a spacer machined to make up for the offset in the housing

what about swapping carriers?
