I've been doing it this way since I put the discs on...just curious what other peoples setups are.

Yes
I have been running that way for the last 7 years but I used # 3

Yeah, I went ahead and paid Downey's price, so I could remove the silly backing-plates. Plus it makes changing birfs so much easier! :D

Here is a pic:

Thanks for the replies:)
I'm currently swapping in some longer newer braker lines for the knuckles. I had the 5-6" stock factory (August '74) brake lines there and they were looking pretty bad and weren't quite long enough.

The ones I'm putting on were some miscellaneous spares that I had laying around.

Is the thread that goes into the caliper the same thread that goes into the backing plate? from what I remember they were different. If I'm wrong then you could just order the longer rubber lines ($15 ea.) that extend from the frame & be done w/ the whole backing plate.

You are right about the threads...one is female and one is male.

I actually don't even have the backing plates on there...well I removed 95% of the backing plate leaving only the small ring that bolts on the spindle.

The stock PU set up utilizes a hard brake line from the caliper to the backing plate. Then the PU has rubber Female lines going up to the frame (one on each side of the truck)

My disc converted 74 cruiser had the stock '74 short rubber lines going from the caliper to the axle tube. Then to a Tee near the diff breather which had a longer single rubber hose going up to the frame. I'm simply replacing these shorter lines with longer ones. In fact one of the longer front lines was previously my rear brake line.

PS I did notice that one of the longer front lines utilizes a brass washer and the other does not. The one that doesn't use the brass washer is much longer and basically bottoms out at the inverted flare inside the fitting. Just different ways of doing the same thing.
