I just bought a 91 nissan 4x4 five speed standerd cab and i went to my tire shop down the road and they said that i would have nothing but trouble if i was to put a lift kit on it. he said that if i was to do a straight axle swap then it would be ok, but i dont have that kind of money right now. I was wondering what you guys do i would like to do a body lift and at least a 3 in lift what do you guys think is the best way to go??
thank you

The steering system is the weak spot (besides the IFS in general) and if you plan to lift you should plan on some sort of improved steering system with an idler arm brace.
www.lpperformance.com has an improved centerlink and optional reinforced pitman and idler arms.
www.purenissan.com (Calmini) has a system that completely redesigns the linkage, but there is a history of problems with the current idler arm setup. Supposedly they have a new idler arm in the works to address the issue.

I you are serious about wheeling it, slap some 32's on it for now and save up for an SAS. The suspension lift is no good because you will have no drop in your suspension meaning a scary ride.

Wha? Unless you max out the travel, you'll have a decent amount of droop left and the ride will be fine. Aim for at least 3/4" of room left between the underside of the upper control arm and the droop-stop it rests on at max droop. There are low-profile stops available as well.
I see several options. First, everyone wants some lift, so why not get the body lift and throw it on there, that will give you 3 actual inches of lift, be cheap, trouble free if installed correctly the first time, and allow bigger tires. Plus you won't have changed any of the steering or suspension. Next, do a torsion crank lift. Turn the adjusters up to give around 2 inches of lift for free. Yes it will wear out steering and cause some tire scrub, but who cares, you need lift! Next upgarde the steering with one of the kits available, and wheel away.:smokin: PS. Don't spend money at shops when it comes to your Nissans suspension and steering, they are not knowledgable and always have problems. That's why they tell customers stuff like "Don't lift it" or "I wouldn't put any aftermarket items on it". You need to go to the Nissan boards like here, and 4x4parts.com and Nissan4wheelers.com where you will learn what your truck is all about, and not have a need to take it to a shop.
