: ?'s about going full floater
TJpwr 04-17-2002, 04:17 PM I have a Currie built 31 spline, explorer disk brake, high pinion nine in the rear of my Jeep. I am thinking of going with the Warn full floater kit with drive flanges. I like the idea of this for the reason that if an axle does break I can just throw a lockout hub in there and get to a point on the trail to fix it. And also it would be much easyer to carry spare shafts(plus cheaper).
Aside from the cost it seems like a great thing to do with no disadvantages but I'll bet I'm missing something. What?
Thanks, Phil:usa:
TJpwr 04-19-2002, 08:54 AM what no one has anything thing to say?
rockbound 04-19-2002, 09:17 AM well, the only disadvantage that i see is the weight factor, if you are worried about that. It does add a significant amount of weight to your axle from what i understand. However i think that it is still worth it!
the FF kit will add 20 pounds? max! the real benifit is the fact that itt akes the load off the axles and places it on a spindle like a front, giving more strength.. and making the axles stronger because they're not taking a side laod, only the torsion from teh drive, which they are designed to do...
honestly i'd be worried about that F150 front IFS ring and pinion in there before ANYTHING else going....

Exactly! Those axles will be fine. The R&P will be the first thing to go if it does let loose. I ran 31 spline 9" with a full spool on my YJ with 38.5" SX's. Never wimpered a bit, been all over the Con and many of street miles.
BlueJeep 04-19-2002, 09:54 AM I'd just get 35 spline axles for it and not worry about breaking it, and not carry spares. I'm not sure if there are any limitations with the Currie HP center for running 35 splines, but if not, that's my opinion.
Chad H 04-19-2002, 11:56 AM Ive run the full floater kit with a detroit locker and 44" Boggers, AND a 460 for 6 years, love it.......
Broke a few 9" centersection pos pinion support bearings, thas all.........
Im actually thinking of selling it right now, as its out of the rig.... Installed a standard 9" and went to 35's to sell that specific rig......
Mine has 1ton hubs, I notice some have 1/2 ton hubs, strange

the only kit's with 1 ton (35sp) are the 35sp axle kits  of you're running a regualr 31 (ford) 30 (dana) 29 (model 20) why put a 35sp hub on it and make a neched down (weaker) axle???? seems kidna dumb to me..
the currie unit's will do 35sp no problem, just need a 35sp 9in locker and different carrier bearings ;) but again... WHY? that R&P will drop way before a shaft will...
Sundowner 04-19-2002, 12:19 PM the model 20 locking hubs have been known to pop.
I wouldn't mind seeing a 30 spline D60 hub out back instead of the half-ass modified D44 hubs they give you.
maybe then the drive plates (which cost more than D60 hubs for some reason) wouldn't be necessary.

did you run a hi pinion nine or standard?

TJpwr 04-20-2002, 01:10 AM so the full floater kit is not worth my money?
Also, so what I'm getting is that my rear axle uses an 8.8" ring gear but a 9" carrier?
Thanks, Phil :usa:
