I lost out on a good 1ton donor truck so i'm still stuck with my D44-12bolt set up. Here's the question's. I only seem to wreck u-joints and axle stub ears...(couple times now! 4.56 with 39.5 tsl's) no pinion or ring breakage yet. If i spend some money and go to a chro-mo axle set up with ctm or ox u-joints will i be stong enough to have fun. My rear 12 bolt hasn't had a problem yet either. Both front and back have limited slips. Also i want to lincoln lock the rear end..am i looking for trouble. Any advice on how to beef up my current axles would be good.

get a 14 bolt rear... cheep and strong...

and if you cant afford a d60 get the 8 lug outers and brakes for ur d44 so you can match the bolt pattern.... and then chromo's and ctms... but you might as well save that cash and get a 60

not really a cash problem. d60 availability is down and the people who have even the junkers know the value (i'm talking 1000$ plus up here in canada) so i don't want to get milked by some farmer with a rusted out unit that needs tons of work just to start. I've been waiting almost 6 mo's already. I also like the clearance from the smaller pumpkins... my truch is low with large tires (good center of gravity) would have to move up to a 42 or 44 to compensate for the larger diffs. i can find cheap 14 bolts.

i would just get a 14 bolt ff and shave the bottom of the housing like everyone else does.detroit lockers are cheap for 14 bolt ff as well or you can weld it. it would hold up a ton better welded if done right then a 12 bolt would.

highonda always has the best prices, every one else is trying to jack the prices up to make money on them1200-1500 for a bone stock one + shipping. highonda's are always 800-900 + shipping and he ships every where.

i'm in canada...B.C actually so shipping heavy axles could eat up the savings plus i think i'd have to pay duty. does that highonda have a web sight or phone number so i can check it out.

Your 12 bolt is a ticking time bomb, trust me. I only have 37's and have broke a locker, a carrier in half, bent the housing 3 times(and it was trussed), and sheared almost every tooth off of 2 sets of spider gears. Get a 14 bolt, you'll thank yourself. As for the 44, I run stock shafts and a locker and haven't had a problem, I just twin sticked my NP205 and use 2-LO alot to save the wear and tear on the front.

I wouldnt waste my time doing crap to the 12 bolt
like everyone else said, go with a FF14 and weld it up; youll never think about it again.

As to your front. Stick with your limited slip, it is the reason that axle has lasted as long as it has. You will evntually destroy that too. I would get yourself an 8 lug 44 or just do the conversion to yours.

I use a mini spool in mine but I only have 35s on my truck. I think your going to have problems with that axle no matter what you do.

Best advice is to get ahold of a 60, by the time you beef up the 44 you will have nearly bought a decent 60 anyway
