: Livingston, KY, Chromer's ridge...........
I ride up there about every weekend. Just wanted to post a thread to keep bumping for people who want to wheel there. Anyone want to go this weekend? I'll be up there camping, and wheeling if anyone wants to come. Wouldn't mind gettin a few rigs together for a good ride, and have a few beers at camp. Anyone fairly close?
tubehead 06-19-2006, 02:01 PM I need to get back over there and wheel some. We went the weekend before easter and had fun. I was thinking about heading down one weekend soon.
I hadn't been in about 4 years until this year. Been going about every weekend since. PM me next time you head down that way.
donkeystompit 06-19-2006, 04:54 PM TEEJ, we used to go all the time til they closed it. So are all the main trails they used to have open? I would love to go back but nobody could tell me what is open.

Yup. All open to licensed vehicles. No ATV's.
Anyone gonna be there Sat and Sun? Anyone want to go?

tubehead 07-03-2006, 02:33 PM We're heading down soon. What days can you go?
suk35 07-03-2006, 09:07 PM What kind of trails are there?
Hard stuff?
What days are you wheeling?
I can go just about any time at all, literally. Just went today actually. I wheel there every week. Had some minor sheet metal carnage, and busted an upper shock mount. If you guys are gonna be there soon, I'll wheel with three shocks. Just lemme know what days you guys might go. And yes there is a plethora of hard shit. No shortage of it at all. I about flopped today on the main trail. I'm close enough, I always drive up there. I go all backroads so sometimes I don't even air back up before heading home. Takes me bout a half hour, maybe less.
The whole place is sandstone, and nothing but, pretty cool. Here are a couple pics from Pink Rock. Its one of the first obsticles as you enter the place, always have to stop there and mess around for a minute. Not the hardest by any means, but the only pics I got on this computer. I'll get some pics of some knarley shit this week for the folks who don't know the place.

biggin 07-06-2006, 06:13 AM Hey Teej, If i can get the jeep fixed this weekend I would be up for the next saturday if your available. Let me know if you are. It takes us around 3 hrs to get there, maybe less.
tubehead 07-06-2006, 07:17 PM We are heading down sunday morning. We should be there around 10. If anyone wants to go, come on. We will have several types of rigs so bring what ya have.
suk35 07-06-2006, 07:29 PM How long you staying?
Got some more pics today, me and a buddy went on a short ride just to mess around.

The above pics are from what is called Steppin' Rock if I'm not mistaken, there are a few different shoots that run parrallel with it that are pretty wild as well. Here's another from the same place, view from the bottom.

Here's another steep but smooth climb, only about 25 yards from the base of Steppin' Rock. This one claimed my driveshaft a few weeks ago.

If you follow the trails down deep as fuck into the hollers, sand stone changes to limestone, and pines change to hemlocks. Pretty cool.

Are you guys camping? I assume you're unloading off to the right as you come in off the 909? Look for the jeep in the above pics, as I'll probably already be there, bouncin around on 3 shocks, loaded down with gear and camping shiat. Just look for the bungy cords holdin the driver side of my hood down:flipoff2: I'm camping up there at least Sat. night, and wheeling sunday, or I may head out tomarrow, and just camp the whole weekend.

Hell man, I'm always available. Just let me know when you're comin down.
Couple more random shots from today, cause everyone likes pictures, and cause we seem to have taken alot.........

tubehead 07-07-2006, 08:00 AM We're just heading down for the day sunday. We should be there around 10 and we'll be parking in the 49'er parking lot. I'll look you up. I'll be driving my Chili pepper red TJ beater.
suk35 07-07-2006, 09:46 AM I'm coming up there sunday morning. I wanted to wheel sun, mon, tue.
I have never been so how about when I get to livingston, you tell me how to find you. Also I'll pm you my number. Aron

Well if you want, we could just plan on meeting at the 49'er parkin lot (gas station at entrance) around 10 when tubehead rolls in. If you don't think you can be there at that time, just give me a call on Saturday evening, and let me know what time you'lle be there. Pm'd both you guys my #. I think I'll be up there camping Saturday night, so I'll already be there when you all get in. I can also run back down there Mon. and Tues. after around 2pm and wheel as well.
tubehead 07-07-2006, 04:29 PM Looks like we will have a good group. See you all about 10.
You guys like Coors light?
Tubehead: I hope I didn't send the wrong impression with that last comment. I don't condone drinking and driving, and am not that kind of person. I just had 4 in the fridge, and like to drink one when we stop for lunch, and figured I would offer you all one as well. I hope thats not why you guys didn't come. Sorry if it came across wrong, I should have explained. Suk35 came up with his buggy, it walked most everything without much difficulty.
suk35 07-11-2006, 09:46 AM Thanks for draggin me around. I wish I could have stayed longer.
If you have any pics, post them up.

Not a problem man, had a good time cruisin around. Seems like we played a little phone tag on Mon. As soon as I got off, I was ready to head down there again. Sorry bout your brakeline, but glad the fuel pressure issue got resolved. I tried to take a picture when you went up steppin rock those few times and my fawkin camera went dead :mad3: , so no pics. Hopefully you can get back up here again when you get some time, and we can plan things out a little better, and get a bigger group together.
Hey, newbie here. TEEJ, I go to Cromers about every weekend also. Surprised Ive not ran into you there, of course it could be that you are in a lot deeper than I go. Payment book keeps me out of the rough stuff. Cool pics of pink rock and the double hump. Maybe Ill see you there one weekend, (and coors light is great.) :D
donkeystompit 07-13-2006, 02:42 AM Probably coming up saturday. Do they ever check tags? Everyone has a tag but they are all expired.
I havent saw the Forestry Service there all summer. I'd say your fine to haul 'em in. Most of the rigs Ive been seeing dont even have tags.
Doesn't matter. As long as its not some wierd slopped together dune buggy, or a fourwheeler, you'lle be fine for sure. If you guys are coming on Saturday, I can wheel Sat morning and afternoon. I'll be going to the master musician's festival Sat night, but not till after dark. Let me know if you all are coming in, and I'll show ya some COOL spots that you probably didn't know were there.:D
donkeystompit 07-13-2006, 03:51 PM Alright. I am waiting to hear back from someone about if we are going but I would say we are. Probably get there around 8:30-9:00. I will let you know when I find out.
Can you still go down by the water?

If you're referring to the "lake", that's the pretty green color, then yes. I was just down there the other day. Just let me know if you all are going to be there for sure, and at what time, and I'll be there. Its very possible this could be the last trip I take over there in the jeep. Hopefully I'll be in a flatbed extra cab toy by next weekend.:D
GPERX4 07-14-2006, 02:22 PM I havent been down there in a few years since it was closed, but camping down there isn't a problem anymore???
donkeystompit 07-14-2006, 02:47 PM TEEJ, we are coming tomorrow. My 4runner and a cj5. We are shooting for being at the gas station off the exit at 9:30. Anyone coming with you? Well, If I dont talk to you on here tonight I will see you in the morning. If something comes up, my # is 865-382-2820.
Greg

As far as I know it isn't an issue. There have been fresh fire pits down there the past couple times I've been. Next overnight trip I go on, I plan on camping down there. I've talked to as many locals as possible about it, and none have told me its off limits. If I find out it is, then I'll quit going down there. I'm sure its not a problem though.

Thats cool, I'll plan on meeting you all up there at 9:30 then in the 49er parking lot. If you don't care, bring a couple extra trash bags with you. If we ride down by the lake, then I want to pick up some of the shit people have left down there when we stop. Its too pretty of a spot for people to throw their trash down. Hopefully there's not alot. I'll be in my jeep by myself, unless my girl decides to go, no other rigs though.

Sounds good. Cya then.
KB440 07-15-2006, 07:05 PM Thanks for sharing the pics. Looks like a decent place to ride. I was up at the Badlands last weekend and had a good time. I may have to make a trip down there sometime soon.
donkeystompit 07-15-2006, 07:44 PM Just got back from there. We used to ride there all the time. Today was the first time back in at least 4 years. Still great riding. Even better now is no 4wheelers or motorcycles. Kinda funny because there was a whole group of guys from Cincinnati there today.

GPERX4 07-16-2006, 03:20 AM I'm glad to see that the school bus is still there on School Bus Trail. There was a clean up there a few years back I wondered if it was towed out.
donkeystompit 07-16-2006, 07:15 AM We had no problems the rest of the day. Went down to the river and looked around. I plan on making another trip after the pbb ride. Gotta get all the guys to come this time. Boy, some things up there never change. The playground, which is closed and marked as closed, was still being used as a mud pit. People just driving around the signs. Well I am looking forward to seeing the pics, lost my camera so I didnt bring one. I wish I had gotten one of your close call on the ledge in the middle of the trail.
Doesn't surprise me about the playground, seems like some people trespass as a hobby :shaking:. What would you guys think about getting a big cleanup/trail run together some time after the Harlan ride? Anyway, pics are coming, I just have to host them, so they'lle be up in a bit. Thanks again for coming, I had a hell of a time, even though I had to take it easy a bit.

donkeystompit 07-16-2006, 07:16 PM Great pics. Would it be too much trouble for you to email me original size pics? As for the cleanup/ride that sounds good.
I'll try and get those pics to ya tomarrow. Those aren't all the pics. There are a few more, some on the same obsticles, just different attempts and spots. So there are a few more.
donkeystompit 07-17-2006, 06:24 PM Thanks man.
Sorry, forgot about the pics. I'll get them to ya tomarrow.
Traded off the jeep, and finally got back into a yota again. 85' extra cab, 22RE, ws6, dual top shift stock cases, 4:10's, lockrite front, longs, IFS rear spooled, allpro 4" springs, hysteer, piggy back bilstein's, 2.5" BS TR beadlocks, 36" iroks, etc etc. Anyway, ran schoolbus today to the lake and back, and a few other spots today to test out the yota. Went up everything I pointed it at, including the climb down by the lake that OWNED the jeep last trip down. I ripped off the driver side mirror on that climb, but other than that the whole day went smooth, and I was impressed. I also abseolutely LOVE having 2wheel lo. It makes steering alot easier when it gets really tight, don't know how I ever did without it. I drove the first half of the day, and let my buddy Kevin drive the second half of the day. We both were fully getting it on climbs all day. What a blast it is to be driving a toy again.

But I wanted that truck!
I know a guy who has a nice black TJ for sale :flipoff2:
donkeystompit 07-24-2006, 05:49 PM Jeeps Suck!
Thats a sweet truck. Better get a exo on it or it will look like mine.
suk35 07-24-2006, 07:42 PM Glad to see you got the truck.
Now it just needs some tube.
I'm gonna tube up the rear from the cab back. Not a big fan of exo's, gonna go with a full in cab cage. Haven't really made up my mind 100% yet, but the flatbed is gonna be pretty simplistic. Prolly something similar to this:

Hey Donkey, when are you guys leaving for Harlan, and how many rigs are coming with you? I might be coming by myself unfortuneatly, had a buddy with a sas'd '94 on 38's coming, but he's gonna have to work that weekend. Would you care if I fell in with your guys' group on the trails?
donkeystompit 07-26-2006, 02:03 AM Not a bit. I am gonna try to leave thurs night. Either way I will be there friday morning. I would say we will have a pretty large group. Depends on who wants to ride what trails.

Its on I-75, about 8 miles north of London. Its exit 49 on the 909. Almost forgot, its free to wheel and camp, just make sure you are in a licensed vehicle.
4joker 08-10-2006, 06:33 PM some friends and I are going down there the 18-20th here in august. All we have as in tires are 33's & 34's. I've never seen 909 but my friends used to ride their dirtbikes there every weekend. Anybody still visit Livingston?
You guys will be fine. You can go anywhere you want, almost all of the hard stuff is optional. There's actually a group from Cincy that rides there almost every weekend. Got some machine work to do to my knuckles, (doin the 5th stud mod) and a few other things to do to my rig, but should have it up soon. Pm me when you guys are coming down if you need a trail guide.:)
Matt
markscout 08-11-2006, 05:33 PM i'm in that cincy group, we seen you guys last time we were down, mostly toyota's, but a couple american rigs (I was the one in the int. scout). a few of us will be down on friday the 25th late afternoon and will wheel that night and all day saturday. most of our group will be attending gravalrama in cleves, ohio that weekend, but a few of us rather do some wheelin.

Mark

Should be able to go. Think I'll just fix the rig, and wait on doing any machine work. It'll be back together alot faster.:D Count me in, and just pm me on the details before you guys head down. I'll see if I can't get a couple other rigs to come as well.
markscout 08-13-2006, 12:46 PM I'll get with ya mon. or tues that week.

Wish I could man, got the yota torn down into a million pieces right now, so count me out. :( You guys got an extra seat open for Saturday?

Gotta love Crommers. Hard to believe you got rid of the TJ though.
An xtra cab got me into the sport. Its nice to have a yota again, as I've never missed a vehicle as much as my old extra cab. I'm gonna tear this thing apart, and build it from the ground up, and going the truggy route with it. I'll be moving this winter, so once I get settled in, and financially recover, the yota is getting the treatment.
markscout 08-27-2006, 05:29 PM TEEJ, sorry about not getting back with you-didn't see your post till after we got back.
TEEJ, sorry about not getting back with you-didn't see your post till after we got back.
No prob man. What all did you guys run? Last time I met you guys, the dude in the green yota said you guy's were running "butt crack"?? Where the hell is that??:D Wish I could've been there.
Matt
markscout 08-28-2006, 01:02 PM We ran what we call "the highway trail" when you get to pink rock you go to the right and drop down in and you're close to I-75 and it takes you around and brings you up to the top where everyone camps(short trail) but good. To find "butt crack" just follow the little signs nailed to the trees that looks like a turtle(called Sheltowee Trace, Sheltowee is the name the Indians gave Daniel Boone) and it runs you right into "butt crack" which is just a 3 foot stair step with a crack down the middle of it. Then we continued on that trail and took the right fork (almost where it turns to gravel toward the Daniel Boone Motocross track and went to the natural bridge, then hit the cave on the way back trough and came up "school bus". We allways run "school bus backwards from what most people do and almost never go down, but cut into the trail and go up it. It sounds short, but it was about a 10 hour ride, lots of playing around going up all the stair steps, stop for lunch, etc. Pics will be on the web site sometime this week if you want to check them out.
Sounds like a cool way to go. I'll have to get in with you all soon, hopefully I'll get my junk back together soon.
Any one going to be around this weekend?
Any one going to be around this weekend?
Some buddies of mine will be up there camping and wheeling tomarrow night. I may be up there as well, but as a passenger. Should be a white yota, blue TJ, and a red fullwidth YJ. Look for us if you're up there.
GPERX4 09-02-2006, 04:25 AM I was going to head down for a few days, but the motor started blowing oil so that cancelled those plans.
Camped up there Sun night, we had a big group. Rode all day Monday and had a blast, riding shotgun isn't that bad. At least I knew my rig wouldn't break, as it was at the house.:D
dezrocks 09-06-2006, 05:13 PM there are afew of us that may come down this weekend and ride! was wondering is there any place to park my tow rig and trailer (2wd dually)? Sorry for jacken you thread just need to no!

Not a hijack man, that is exactly why I started this thread. You can park your trailer at the 49er parking lot, (gas station at the entrance) or you can park it anywhere you want up at the trail. Your truck won't have any trouble getting up to the trail, there are plenty of good spots as soon as you get up there.
How about some directions. I would be interested, coming from Clarksville Tn.
Its on I-75, about 8 miles north of London, KY. Its exit 49 to Livingston, 909. Its right off the exit. There will be a sign at the end of the ramp to tell you which way to turn to get to the 49er gas station at the base of the entrance to the trail. Parking info in the post above.
dezrocks 09-07-2006, 01:45 PM Thanks for taking the time to pm me partsjockey and for resonding back TEEJ! afriend of mine told me that the word was they wouldnt let anyone park at the truck stop anymore! But he said he hadnt been there for a awhile! See the problam with my 2wd dually is it is slammed on the ground, so it is helpless on any very slitely rough terrain!

I was up there about 2 months ago and the lady at the gas station told me I could not park there. You have a slammed dually???:shaking:

You used to be able to park on the side of the road. Maybe?
Hmmm, thats the first I had heard of not being able to park at the truck stop, alot of people still regularly do. If not though, the shell station is closed down, and alot of people park over there. It's out of the way of the truck stop, and wouldn't be a problem.
partsjockey 09-09-2006, 02:59 PM The whole parking thing is kinda wierd. The ppl that own the now outta business shell station used to own the 9er. That lady is a pure bitch! She wouldnt let anyone park there and would have em towed if they did. Some how or nother they ended up swappin or something of the sort. From that point on the lady at the 9er has always been nice to wheelers as she realizes they are an integral part of her business. We had always made it a point to boycott the Shell and it closed a few months back.
Just a side not the 9er is usually 8-10 cents cheaper per gallon on gas!

See, that's kinda been my experience as well. The lady at the 9'er has never given me any attitude. Granted I drive my junk when I go to Livingston because its so close, but alot of my buddies still park at the 9'er, and at the Shell. Basically any place at all that's out of everyone's way. They just back in, same as the semi's.
solar1 09-10-2006, 05:51 AM Same. Just be nice to her, respect her property and try to send some business her way. That seems to keep her happy when it comes to our club parking there so please try to keep up the good work.
dezrocks 09-10-2006, 03:22 PM I parked at the 9er! Went in and asked if it was O.K., she was very nice and said no problam! Ill post some pictures later!
dezrocks 09-11-2006, 03:29 PM This a friends 4-runner that I built a few years ago!
dezrocks 09-11-2006, 03:33 PM I think they said that was called 45!
dezrocks 09-11-2006, 03:43 PM He lost a front d-shaft there:barf:
dezrocks 09-11-2006, 03:44 PM We where going to the lake!
dezrocks 09-11-2006, 03:46 PM :shaking:
Sweet pics man! I didn't lose a front shaft, but my buddy Kevin did get high centered in that same spot, pictures are on page 2. Glad to hear the lady was nice, she's always been nice to me.:)
Doing a little extra work to my rig, and hope to have it back together in a couple days. Anybody coming in next weekend? Gonna try to get a few rigs together for that weekend.

Nice to hear of the clean up, if I only lived there still...
Sweet pics man! Hoping to have a few rigs there this Saturday if anyone wants to join in. I'll be there in my truck for the first time in a few weeks. Its sporting a freshly rebuilt front axle, ARP studs for the steering arms, new paint on axles, frame, and cab, and cleaned up nice:D :smokin: . Just have some brake issues to work out before then. Hope to see some of you there.
Wayne, you should get back down here and run Livingston, and Harlan.
As for the cleanup, I haven't heard of this yet, if anyone has any more info please post it here so everyone will know. I was planning on trying to get a cleanup ride going, but if someone else already has, that's even better. I'm off to work on the truck now, hopefully someone has some more info on the cleanup.
EDIT: Didn't see the link to the cleanup info, my bad :P
Brett: I'll see you and the bumble bee yota later mang!

I cannot recall exactly where the rockhouse is but I think it is near Skegg Creek, the east fork but I could be wrong. PM me if you want exact directions, I can make a call to a buddy...
wayneraintree 09-25-2006, 09:02 AM I linked the clean up to a couple local toy groups, so glad to hear of the activism....
solar1 09-25-2006, 04:29 PM The directions are not necessary as I will ask a couple of guys when we are down there next. Thanks for the links and hoipe to see you out on the trails soon.

He should be fine. Never see any authorities up there anymore. You ARE supposed to have tags and insurance on the rig, but with all the damn ATV activity up there lately, I doubt the attention would be on you. Tell your buddy to go ahead and bring his rig, he'll be fine. EDIT: That's all that is required.

lucasbranham 10-04-2006, 03:00 PM i was there a couple months ago and got a ticket in my buggy for no papers. i was there a couple weeks ago and was told just before i got there they had written several tickets that day and had taken a guy to jail when they ran his info and he had a warrant out for his arrest. thats just been my experience there.

Surprising, I never see anyone up there. They kind of need to be to crack down on these fawking dirtbikes and atv's. I guess just make sure you don't have any warrant's:flipoff2: There IS a risk of a fine if not licensed and insured like he stated though.
GPERX4 10-08-2006, 11:51 AM I'll post the clean up on the club site I have been wanting to go down there again.
Anyone gonna be there this weekend? Should be a few of us there.

May19 10-17-2006, 08:45 AM did he climb the end hill on pink rock. I've hit alot but never made it in my buggy
No, he never made it, although I think with some krawlers he would have had better luck. I think it was his shakedown run.
muddy_yota_guy 10-18-2006, 12:46 PM i'm sittin here at work and you're talking about goin to cromers every week, stop rubbin it in matt, i'll have my yota goin again in a few weeks, fixed the bouncing death wobble problem. oh got another yota last weekend you need to check it out it's pretty redneck
May19 10-18-2006, 03:17 PM if you'll ride up there about every weekend do you ever run in to any woods police I only live 20 minutes from there and I've been traveling 2 and 3 hours to ride but I don't have license or insurance
solar1 10-19-2006, 05:58 PM I think it is hit or miss with the woods cops. Haven't seen them much this year though.
BTW, where you at in Berea? Haven't seen many wheelers here.

Haven't seen any at all, doesn't mean they never come, I just never see them there. I can't remember the last time I was up there, and didn't see a group or two of ATV's and or dirtbikes, so I assume they haven't shown up in a while.
May19 10-20-2006, 03:44 PM we've rode there twice this year and that was mostly test and tune. like to start back since don't compete no more
weezerrockinzr2 10-20-2006, 04:50 PM I floped at Livingston earlier this year. It's a fun place to go for a day.

TBItoy 01-15-2007, 07:38 PM Hey TEEJ, My club, Cumberland Offroad www.cumberlandoffroad.com is trying to get a trip together for the weekend of Feb. 3/4. Hopeing you might hook us up with a trail guide or some more info on camping and such! THanks
You have a PM sir.:) For anyone else interested in the area, or for the ones who know me, I'm moving to Indiana in two weeks, as I've taken a job up there. So I won't be readily available anymore, and won't be up on any new info in Livingston in the future.:( I'll have to make sure to make regular trips back down to KY, cause IN is TOO FAWKING FLAT!
redbaron 01-20-2007, 04:06 PM Where you moving to in IN?
May19 01-20-2007, 05:15 PM teej sorry we never got to get together and ride i have a truck in progress as for livingston everyone needs to make sure they have the correct license and ins. if they go went today and got caught
I'll be making the trip back down to Livingston from In, this weekend. There will be a small group of us camping Sunday afternoon, night, and wheeling all day Monday. If anyone wants to go, be up there Monday morning. Just look for the red extra cab in this thread.
I forgot about this thread. Damn I miss that place, been closed a few years now due to sediment deposit in Woods Creek Lake. Forestry service closed it down. Closest place now is Harlan at around 2.5 Hrs.:(
solar1 05-17-2012, 05:24 AM This is what the top of the stair steps looks now. Picture was taken last weekend.

KyTrash 05-18-2012, 08:18 PM There is no place to ride now. They have reclaimed it all, you would not know pink rock now.
*Turkish 05-20-2012, 04:48 PM Awesome place to wheel close to home, has been a year since I was up there. Loos like they have finished it off by looking at the last pictures. Shame.
