have a friend having tranny issues and i am wondering if a 700r4 would be a replacement for the 4l60e? i am wondering if it would be a direct bolt and from what he tells me there is something running from the carb to the 4l60e that is in it. the tranny is shot and needs replacing is the reason i ask.

The 60E use the computer to shift the trans. So no. You could swap a 700R4 in it's place but you would need to hook up a TV cable.

I have never heard of a 4L60E used with a carb. in a stock truck. So what year is it? Why not just rebuild the one he has!

the 4l60e and 700r4 are basically the same transmission, exccept the 4l60e is an electronically controlled trans, the inside hard parts are basically the same, so you friend might have a 700 already in is, that thing running from the carb is the TV cable,

i've never heard of a carbed 4l60e either, because they require a seperate computer, look underneath on the right side above the pan and see if there is a big electrical connector or a cable, the 700 has the tv cable running to the carb

Like posted above. Look for a cable or electrical connector in the tranny.
The 700R4/4L60/4L60E are basically the same tranny. The major difference between the 700R4/4L60 and teh 4L60E is that the 4L60e is controlled by teh computer. The 700R4/4L60 are controlled by a tv cable.
