hey guys, i was thinking of doing some head work on my f motor, just trying to get a little more hp. anyways, i have a complete 2f motor sitting around. just wondering if the head off of the 2f is interchangeable with the f motor and which head flows the best...which way you guys think i should go...

Only if you have a 74 (transition year) chances are tey will not.
Besides, most head work that I have seen really does not do much good to a motor that redlines at 4 grand.....

so only the head of a 74 2f will fit on a f motor? anyone else agree? which head is better than?

Forget building up the F engine, just spend your time and money on the 2F. If the motor is in good shape, and you can do a "freshen up" rebuild with std size bearings and rings, and a valve job... you are ahead of the game. 2F's are good engines, they will never win a drag race, but for a nice torque engine... way to go.

Did something really dumb the other night. Someone called on the 3FE engine I had for sale, and was all excited about it with the EFI harness, computer, etc... After talking to him for a bit, I realize his mechanically ability was limited... so I talked him OUT OF buying my 3FE! I know, keep my mouth shut and take the money and run.

Anyone know of "George" (Jorge?) around San Antonio with three FJ40's? Ya, he probably thought I was a JERK but when he asked if a 3F was the same length as a 2F.... I really didn't think the conversion was for him. :rasta:

I know as soon as I "get rid" of the 3FE... I'll spot a FJ80 in the paper with "mechanics special" needing an engine! :D

problem is, i just rebuilt my f motor 2 years ago...otherwise i would just rebuild that 2f and plop it in, but i don't want to waste this new motor... anyways i was just wondering what i could do to get some more hp out of this bad boy...i've got the weber 2bbl and the spectre two piece headers on with 2-in-2 out flowmaster. right now i'm waiting for my hei distributor to put in. maybe that will put my hp cravings at a stand still.....well, for only awhile. so should i just leave the head alone? i think i should atleast match the ports with the headers, because i was too dumb to do it when i put on the headers.

the 2F will be a vast improvement over the 1F

but all i know about these bad boys, is they are gutless, heavy, and most of all THIRSTY and if you have horsepower cravings, then anything made by toyota wont really satisfy you!!

on the other hand good torque, reliability, let it run all day, and not have any problems, no custom stuff, and less breakages, keep with toyota, i reckon, build the 2F into what you want it to be, if its a simple conversion, if its complex to change from a F to 2F, then i would probably go with a 350, and dont waste any more money on the 'F' but if its easy to convert, why not slowly build it up, clean everything up, do all the work yourself, port it out, and so on, and have fun while your building it!!!

good call on that, i've been thinking for awhile about this and i think that i need to get rid of the straight six boat anchor and put in a small block chevy-the only problem is that if i do that then i'm going to go all out-gotta have the fuel injection. i really want a tbi 305, but i'm having a hard time getting one for a good price. thanks for the advice-guess i'll just have to be satisfied for now...

Tom,

I think you were talking to the George from our local LSLC chapter... Nice enough guy, but an engine swap would be way over his head, and I'd end up having to help him... :D

Hope you have fun in Gilmer this weekend...

hey reorx, you got the wrong guy...and anyways an engine swap is pretty simple when you already have an sm420 mated to an f motor, my cruiser is begging for that tbi 350!
