: Why are OX lockers Going out of Adjustment?

I just finished adjusting my OX my self for the second time. I had a shop do it the first time because I thought I damaged the thing. So Now that I know how to get it adjusted I want to know is how to keep it that way. It seems that the cable keeps threading itself into the shift fork.

I added lock-tite at the shifter end aswell as a stainless set screw to replace the plastic one. Anyone else have any thing to add to this?

Just wanted to start this up again, sorry for repeating myself in the earlier post. thanks

Hi Scorpion,

The only way I know of where the inner cable rod can thread into the shifter fork in the differential is if the set screw either comes loose or was not tightened.

I would assume yours will be fine now that you have replaced it. By the way, you can get that set screw in brass at Ace Hardware for 15 cents.

FYI,

I believe this adjustment issue is about to go the way of the wind, as the Ox Trax folks have redesigned the entire shifter assembly.

The new one is said to be 100% self adjusting. While I have not seen this unit yet I am expecting to have one in a few days to test.

It is my understanding that there will be some type of replacement program available to Jeeper's who have the current style shifter assembly and who would like to upgrade to the new self adjuster, but I do not have any details on it.

Have you guys had any other probs with them. What axle are you running them in. I was thinking about putting one in a 60, but I've heard they are experiencing a lot of problems and may be going to electric.

Hi chico,

Please understand I don't wish to become an advocate for anyone's products.

That said:

I am not aware of any problems with the OX Trax Lockers, other then what appears to be initial difficulties in adjusting the shifter assembly and cable rod.

But I am not all knowing either.

Nor has this locker been around long enough to really prove itself.

I believe the installation instructions are being corrected and re-written as we speak, and that certainly should help with the popping out of engagement.

I have not seen nor heard of any breakage of any kind with the Ox Locker, but that doesn't mean there hasn't been any.

Anyone have any first hand breakage reports???

There has been some talk about an electrically operated Ox Locker, however I have heard nothing, nor seen anything about it.

If you have an interest in an Air Activated Ox Locker I can tell you that has been done.

Here is a drawing that will give you a look at the general design.

So far I have built only one, and initial testing shows promise, but it has in NO WAY BEEN FULLY TESTED.

I may very well change the design based on some suggestions I have received form some very knowledgeable friends.

For the moment this effort on hold as I want to see how the new auto-adjusting Ox Shifter Assembly works.

Is the D-60 Ox available yet? I heard it was close.

I just ordered my ox today Whoo hooo! It won't be in for 3 weeks though:( I imagine that the wait is because of the new shifter...we will have to see....

I run the OX in a rear dana 44 in my YJ. I am also considering installing one in my Dana 30 along with some 297 shafts. Its either that or welded spiders and a posilock combo.

Don't worry too much about the shifters. Myself (and the rest of the silent majority, I'm sure) has the old style shifters and they shift like a dream. I've got them front and rear in Waggy D44s in my YJ.

I'm running OXs in my 30 and 44. I haven't had any problem with the 30(I installed it myself with a little help) but the 44(installed by DrivetrainDirect) I've had to readjust three times. Seems to work perfectly now though.
Overall I'm really happy with these lockers, it's so nice to be able to disengage the front for tight turns then reengage it for climbing over boulders.
Also the Ox cover in a Dana30 application probably helps keep the 30 housing from flexing(just a thought).
