89 XJ bad brakes?

In my 89 XJ junk the brakes are almost non existent. I was told that chrysler put in some pos electric system or something that year. Don't really get it. Was also told it's not worth fixing. Anybody have this problem? What'd you do to fix it? Should I just do a swap and put like a Dana 44 with disks under there? Please help. I wanna get it up on 35's but I can't even stop the stockers. :confused:

I've got a couple of 89's ... I agree the brakes are sufficient for stockers at best. I put a set of heavyish 31's on mine and the braking got even worse. If you do want 35's I would say look for a 44 and do a disc brake swap or get a 8.8 w/ discs ... you can even find them with 4:10's. I found an xj 44 did disc swap but it still isn't in as I'm waiting to get a 4.5 lift and all do it all at once .... time and money too many projects!
