i absolutely love my fj40 i just got, but there are a couple things id like to upgrade.
the front has drums, and i was told that i could get an 85 and older outer stuff and its almost a bolt on thing. is there a link to someone who has done that?
also i have manual steering. i read the post about trying to use an amc steering pump, is there a link to that swap. i have the stock 6 cyl in there.
and finally, i read about an hei converion from colorado cruisers i think. anyone have anymore info on this?
thanks

thank you for the link, andfor the changing the name, well ummm ill have to put some thought into that one
i still like my jeeps, i have just wanted an fj40 for the last 13 years, and finally got the one i wanted.
i think im going to soa mine, move the rear back 3-4 inches, upgrade to discs and maybe put in a newer rear and possibly vortec it unless i can fab some f.i. for the stock 6 cyl and find or build some 1/2 doors:grinpimp:

Check out the ih8mud link above, it will have just about everything you will need to know. The front discs just are just about bolt on but require a little bit of grinding. As for p/w, why not a saginaw pump. They're a dime a dozen for when things go wrong.

im thinking about running my 5.0 vortec with my 700r4 built to hell and my 205 transfer.
i have a set of 35 inch boggers coming and i think i want to run that route for a while.
i have my rockwells and such, but i really like driving this to work and wheeling it.
i checked out that ih8mud and i like the info. the only problem is that dial up sucks and it takes forever. im trying to locate the parts now to upgrade the brakes. i have a line on a v6 ifs rear end.
im not understanding though the differences in the 40 axles and the mini.
im still researching.
what are some things that i should lookout for. i dont want to reinvent the wheel on this.
i have built tons of jeeps and chevys, but this is my first cruiser.

Mini axle uses a smaller diff (8" vs 8 1/2"). Stick with the cruiser stuff.
You can use the mini knuckles and birfields. You can get FJ40 or 60 knuckles/brakes. stay away from the 75-78, as the bolt pattern is smaller, and you'll have a harder time with Hy-steer, although Luke at 4x4labs will make you high steer arms for the small pattern.
Come to the PMC swap meet July 8th, you'll probably be able to find everything you're looking for.

i thought the cruiser rear axle looked larger, but it is offset and that would be a bad ds angle since my 205 comes out the center.
i was hoping to find a v6 center as i heard they were bigger or stronger. this will be a daily driver, yet pretty decent wheeler.
i still have alot to learn about toyotas, and im trying to keep from putting in chevy axles cause then i wouldnt stop till i had 39s under it.
