I'm looking for a solid 231 Buick V6 to swap into my 48 2A, anyone know the best vehicle and or years to look for while at PNP? I'm probably going to rebuild it regardless. Thanks!

i've got one in my cutlass, its an 84, 231, i've gotten them out of 78's through 87's. i like the 78 ones cause there carbed with no electronics, one wire HEI, and there just simple. usually can be had in running state for less than 200 bones. gm G bodys are a first place to look (olds cutlass, chevy monte carlo, el camino, pontiac grand prix, and of course, buick regals, of the 78-87 vintage.) higher compression can be had with some simple machine work. my v-6 has full ignition, shaved heads, 305 2 barrel carb, high volume oil pump, headers, and very soon a cam. all said and done, should be worth 240 hp

Is 78 when they went from odd fire to even fire? Thanks for the info, I'll be at PNP looking for one next weekend.

i believe all of them have a strange firing order. from all the books i have read on v-6's and internet looking, it appears that the firing order is the same? someone correct me? i have not started mine yet

I believe that they did go from an odd fire to even fire in 78. The odd fire was ok and had kind of a cool sound to it but it idled very rough. Also it is hard to adapt a fuel injection set up to a odd fire engoien. the tach signal is not even it had gaps in it. There are all kinds od info in the odd fire and how it works on the internet.

Do you have any pics of your MB? Sounds like exactly what I'm building!

Thanks.

It was actually a mid-year 1977 change from odd-fire to even-fire.
