I'm getting ready build myself a custom long-travel front drive shaft. Using some 1-11/16 20-spline agro-shaft...

I was rumaging through my pile of junk, looking for a yoke to use on the end of the shaft. A couple buddies of mine that have done this have just cut down a drive-shaft slip yoke, I was thinking of useing a t-case or pinion yoke, till it doned on me that the pinion yokes use u-bolts to hold the u-joint in, and a d-shaft usually is press fit...

Any reason a CAN'T or DON'T WANT TO use a u-bolt syle yoke on both sides of a u-joint?? It may even make it easier to install [the front, t-case side of the driveshaft].

Go square or go home :flipoff2: http://www.wt4wheeling.com/welndmn/images/weekends/9.9.01rocktoads/squareshaft.jpg

It bangs around and makes noise on the street, but with the radio up I don't even know it's there.

No it makes noise when it's in 2wd drive because there is no tension on the line. It makes a lot more noise when it's in 2wd drive with the hubs locked, because the line is being turned by the axle but not the case. In 4wd drive the line is under tension and it's quite, I have not had it over 30 Mph so I don't know how it will perform at 65, but I doubt it'll be vibe free. Make sense:question:

You got to love the slip, about 20 inches :D

Last reply by me, cause Rusty is :crybaby: because I'm mess'n in his post :flipoff2:

Materials
Design Construction in Martinez, about $40.00 for enough material to build 3 or 4 lines
2" x .250 tube
2.5" Receiver tube
One old drive line for parts
Welder

BTW I asked Jees if he could balance it and the answer was NO!

Put a spring inside of it from something like the front fork of a motorcycle to keep some tension on it.

when I ordered my 1410 front t-case yoke I mentioned to Jesse that I wanted to use sq tube shafts...If I never win a High Angle Driveline on this board I probably know why:D

it is not just a balancing problem. the little bit of slop in the fit of the two square tubes causes some vibes and chatters too.

Some guys have welded 3/16 plate to it, to help take some of the slop out of it
