I am looking for any info on front brake conversions for my 72 bronco. I have found some articles on the web, but all seem to be using a lot of hard to find parts. I am wondering if any one has a parts list for current parts that these guys are selling kits on for big $$$$ (maybe its worth it).

Any info would be great.

Thanks:

I don't know whats hard to find, maybe the correct chevy spindles?
How about just find a 78/79 bronco and take the kunckle and everything that you have to remove to remove the kunckle (spindle, stub shaft, rotor, hub, bearings, caliper stand, caliper.

The spindles have been hard to find.

So what you are saying is the 78/79 bronco from the knuckle out will work for my conversion?

You've got a '72 Bronco and IIRC a dana 30. Dana 44's were out in '73? I dont think Dana 44 knuckles will bolt up to a Dana 30.

dana 44;s were 71s :)

But yes, the kunckle out will work.
Do you already have the bigger axle shafts? (297 vs the 260's that came stock)

I'm pretty sure I've got some Chevy Spindles and backing plates, along with some pre-clearanced Waggy knuckles laying around. See, they aren't that hard to find.

By the way... this is probably THE most common question with Early Broncos and it is covered in great detail on ClassicBroncos and a myriad of other sites online.

I've got a few sets of Ford parts to do the swap. I was getting ready to ebay them. PM me if you are intrested. I have knuckles, caliper brackets, and spindles. These are off 78'-79' F150's and Broncos

My bad. :smokin:

Was there something that changed in '73? They did put disks on EB's in '76 & '77 right? Would be difficult to find someone selling those parts though.

Yes, front discs were 76 and 77

I don't know why folks think these parts are so darn hard to find. O-Reilly's has all the parts. Some may not be on the shelf, and need to be brought in from the warehouse, but they do have them. It may cost ~$100 extra to stay with all Ford stuff, rather than go to the Chevy kits I've looked at, and that's assuming all new parts from the store.

Also one of the big advantages of the swap using the Ford parts is that you get a bigger opening in the knuckle. This is nice because if/when you break a axle it makes it a lot eaiser to remove the axle shaft if the u-joint ears have flared out.

those spindals wont work on your rig. all drum brake ford d44's had 6 bolt spindals, the later disc d44's had 5 bolt spindals. this applies to ford only in this instance.
however the '73-'78 chevy blazers are out there & all you need is the spindals(which are 6 bolt), backing plates, calipers, brake hoses & you can use ford rotors.
check out this link if you want a bolt on kit:http://stores.ebay.com/1A-EARLY-BRONCO-DISC-BRAKES-PARTS_W0QQssPageNameZstrkQ3amefsQ3amesstQQtZkm
or just keep your eye on ebay good deals are out there. i got a complere chevy blazer setup for $45.:smokin:

Except for the d44 TTB, some d44 ttb use a spindle that has the 6 bolt pattern and accepts the small bearing 5 on 5.5 hub so i assume it must be very close, if not the same as a chevy small bearing spindle.

Thanks for all the info, I actually read some of the posts at the Classic Bronco web site and found a good parts list all from checker. I priced it out and everything except for the spindles comes to around $290, which I thought was really good comparing to some of the kits out there. I think I might have a line on the spindles for about $30-45 a piece, not quite sure yet. If anyone needs links for this parts list it has helped me out a ton.

If anyone has some extra spindles laying around for a good price I might be interested in them.
