I know this is newb shit but I've searched as much as I have time for a need to help a friend.

My buddy is wanting to do a SOA on his 78 FJ40 and I'm trying to help him gather the parts. I know all the basic stuff he's going to need but don't know FJ vendors too well. Who should I call to help him get everything from one spot? I've looked at SKY and AllPro and like they're steering setups. But it says the steering arms only work on 79 and newer knuckles. What's up with that? Can he swap knuckles from a new one? And he's going to use his stock springs maybe, they're pretty sad. Can I get spring perches, u bolt's and all the odds n ends too?

TIA

contact Luke at 4X4Labs (luke@4x4labs.com)

He is the only one that I know who does the small pattern high steer arms.

He also sells a complete kit for all of the hangers and steel that you'd need.

I would try to swap out to the larger knuckles just for spare parts later down the road. From what I know you can just use toyota truck ones. For a 78 the birfs are the same as far as I know.

Kurt at cruiseroutfitters should have everything too.

i think swapping out for the later knuckles is a good idea as well. both vendors mentioned above should take very good care of you; they're great guys to deal with.

Thanks guys. I'll give those guys a call. It sounds like he may do well to find a old junker or go to the pick-n-pull to get the 79+ knuckles and an IFS steering box.
