Big thanks to J-Bone for these pics
J-Bone: "A friend working in Chile sent these to me. The mine is a gigantic open pit mine. The driver of the huge Terex dump truck was descending into the mine and hopped the 6 foot safety berm and started downhill. The slope is about 40 degrees, minimum. The cliff below the truck is at least 650 feet. Why this thing stopped is anyone's guess. How to get it back up is also anybody's guess."
this first photo gives you an idea of the size of the truck, some steps to climb up into it!!! (id want an elevator)

its a fairly steep incline, and the truck was probly out of control, and the wheels turned full lock probly saved it from falling any further
(sorry had to go and resize tha last 2 photos as they were too big to post, and hopefully i havent destroyed them) :(

deploy the parachute and float it down? :D
more than likely somethign BIGGER (mine equipment, dragline etc) or one of those 250,000 lbs hydraulic winches) would have pulled it back up! get a BIGGER truck and tow it out
but j-bone will read this, id hate to recover that!

On the Dozer Getting It thread there was that picture of that huge hydro crane. One of those could probably pull it up. At least they could remove some of the substructure of the Terex and part it up. I'd think there was some big toys running around that mine loading the trucks that could be used?
Good thing he was empty huh?!

It stopped because the front tires got buried and blocked. In the first pic the passenger tire is almost half buried. That is about 6-9 feet deep. The other pic shows driver side tire blocked by boulders. That guy was lucky.
