Shouldn't that whole post get moved to Chit-Chat:D

'76 was the 1st year for the 4x4's with disc brakes stock.

The damn 4x2's got discs even earlier (late '60's) :mad3:

oh ,well....just another argument on ancient history ;)

Thanks for point that out. However now I'll have to go check my books. I've a 73 and 74 that had Drums, if that doesn't clear things up

I had a buddy who owned a '75 F-100 with the 360FE and Np-435, HP Dana-44 with Drums.

I wonder.......'73 may have been the first year the automatic was an option for the F-100 4x4(F-250 didn't that year). This got a married Np-205 instead of the Dana 21 single speed that the Np-435 came with. Since it had an automatic maybe Ford gave it Discs as an upgrade since it wouldn't have good compression braking compared to the NP-435.

Just a thought.

Anybody know if the earlier disc brake D-44's only were on the C-6 equipted trucks?

We'll get this nailed down eventually.

Any chance that discs were an option upgrade for 73-75? And in 76 they were std? If anybody had sales lit for those years, it would say.... certainly would clear up some confusion, at any rate.

For what it's worth......

My Ford 1973 Truck Shop Manual(genuine fomoco) says F-100-F-250-F-350 4x2 only. 'IF' the discs where an option on the F-100 the manuals the dealer mechanics would have would not cover it.

I also have an EIS Brake Parts catalog. It doesn't show any disc brake parts availible for the 4x4 F-100/150/250 prior to '76 model year.

4x2 F-100 started to have discs in '73. the F-250/F-350 4x2 got discs in '68.

The EIS book is from 1993.

:D :smokin:
