View Full Version : What to do with my 60?
Well, I have gotten to the point where I dont have much time to wheel, my 1985 60 has broke the last two times I have been out and I am supposed to move in a year (from indy to charleston, sc) and then in a year after that out to the rockies some place. I have had this truck since I was 19, I am 33 now. The thing is, I have a bunch of time and money in her, but the body and frame are are getting rough. The motor is more or less new (10k miles), lockers within maybe 5k miles, 4in lift, 35" bigfoots and so on. Anyhow, I am not sure whether I should just sell her out right or sell the parts. Other than the body and frame, the rest is in pretty good shape. But swaping everything would be a pain that I dont have time or space for. I could use the money, but it is not dire. I just dont know if I could bear cutting her up. Is she worth more whole or is she worth more in parts. I mean I figure the motor and axles are worth more than I could sell her for. What are your thoughts on this. I may have a place to store it, but I am not sure what would be the point. Done whining.
Rick.

you would definetly make more money parting the 60 out, but it's a LOT OF WORK! you also need to consider your geographical location. shipping the big parts is a pain in the ass. if there are not a lot of local parts buyers, it could become a real drag.

I agree with Orange. There is more money in parts. The bad thing is you will never get what you have into that motor. Thinking about that single item could be a big headache for you. The other stuff will go quickly. Lots of 60s out there with a broken this or a broken that. Also, disposing of the carcus can be a big PITA when you are all done. And some parts just don't sell. Like glass!
I was just thinking about selling the big items like the motor, tranny, transfer, axles, suspension, PS box and sending the rest to the junk yard. I know I am not going to get what I have in the motor back out, but I was hoping to get as much as possible. I dont have the time to take it all the way down to nuts and bolts though.

Buy a 60 with a dead motor but decent body, and swap it all over. Piece of cake :).
