Any suggestions? We need a longer throw slave cylinder for a 12" chev clutch setup. We are using a Toyota slave & m/c and need something with a longer throw. We need something with more than a 1 1/2 throw. The trans is sm465 mated to diesel using a chev bellhousing and chev cluthc fork.

Don't know the throw on it, but Chevy has an external slave... but the GM bellhousing you have needs to have a round mount point for it.. 1 1/2" throw is alot for the slaves I've seen. Even the aftermarket slaves (CNC, Wilwood) don't have as much as that.

Are you using the stamped steel clutch fork? You might try an aftermarket pull type slave (see above), then drill through the clutch fork to mount the slave in it as close the the BH as you can... maximizing the throwout bearing travel. The other good thing about the pull type slaves is you can easily adjust the cleareance between the t-bearing and pressure plate fingers...

HTH.

BTW: I am using the CNC pull type slave with a SM465 behind my 4.3L...

another idea is to adjust the pivot point, i know they make adjustable ones.......

Are you using a truck slave or a LC slave? I have both here and measured the trucks throw at 1 3/8" and the LC at 1 5/8". What MC are you using? Are you getting full travel out of the slave?

bennett,
Long time no talk. How is it going? I had a similar problem on mine, and the way that I fixed it was by replacing the LC MC with a brake master cylinder from a HiLux pickup. It bolted right on, and solved my shifting problems. I had enough throw in my SC, but I wasn't using all that I needed becuase of my MC. The other way that you can fix it is if you are using the stamped steel clutch fork (mentioned above), to replace it with a cast steel one. They are set up differently and will work with the LC SC & MC.
If you really need a longer throwing SC, then I can't really help. Hopefully life is treating you well. Thomas

longer throw??? No its a volume thing, not a distance thing! Read up on hydraulics, you need a bigger bore!

Actually this is a real good point. Make sure your Master has a bore big enough to move enough fluid to take advantage of all the throw on the slave...
