: Strength of a D44

I have a YJ with a 115.1 crawl ratio and I already replaced the D35 with a tera60 and I was wondering if I should spend money on a 44 or save it and get a 60? Are the 44 shafts strong enough or am I going to be replacing them as often as birfields.

It depends alot on the way you wheel. I'm thinking if you have to ask, a 44 will do ya.
I'm all about D60's.
Nothing wrong with 44's though. They are plenty strong.
What size tires?

44's can be built plenty strong. And with the propper parts,..no! you wont be breaking them like beirfields, in fact you will be lucky if you can break one. But its not cheap. So if your gonna be running 38" tires or bigger, and if you have patience, you could wait on a good deal for a 60.
I like the lightness of the 44 since I have put my Jeep on a diet, but a D60 has legendary strength.

I am going with 37s or 38s it all depends on the clearance of the wheel wells.

H8 What size tire are you using and are you impressed with the CTM joints, and have you ever broken a d44 shaft.

Careful - Newbie colors are showing!! :flipoff2: H8 has been a very strong advocate of the CTMs since he got them (just after I did:D:flipoff2:). Many on the board are using them (as a search will show you) and no one has broken one yet. Lance took out a knuckle and two shafts and the CTM joint went right back in.

I run 38.50x14.50 SX tires, behind a 300 hp, 140:1 drive train.
In the past I have borken over a dozen D44 shafts, and several dozen joints and yokes. Since I have had the CTMs installed, I have not been able to break a joint,...but I have twisted the splines on (2) high strength Warn inner shafts.

no reason for too much wondering - go 60 and that's
it. in the end that would be the cheapest and
the strongest solution.

unless ofcourse, if you decide on 2.5

Would you mind telling us how you have 140:1?????

Not sure what the NP435 first gear is but you have 4.3 Atlas and 4.56 R&P. You would have to have 7.15:1 first gear to get to 140:1. You should be around 127:1

Just a little confused  :flipoff2:
