i have searched google up and down and other sites. i remember reading about a external fuel pump from older fords that will work with the efi pressures. does any one have a link to the info about these pumps or a part # i could use to get one?

I used the Summit(RCI) 19 and 17 gallon tanks, both are less weight than the one stock tank....Here is a Pic.

I have a 88 ford f-150 that I've been getting parts from - it has a fuel pump that works with EFI, but it also uses a low pressure in tank feed pump - I was hesitant to use it because I did not want to run 2 pumps.

Summit sells lots of external, no supply pump needed, 45psi efi pumps. They have a slick setup that has both the pump and a fuel filter together. Not cheap but handy. It is one big billet block with both on it.

I used the 15 gallon rci and used the factory pump. Just cut a hole in the top of the tankand ran some self tappers in it. The pick up is about an inch and a half fromm thr bottom so i just cut the tubing and extended it with a peice of rubber hose. Been runnin g for three years like that now.

The only thing i dont like about fuel cells is that they take alot of room in the back

search for shelljeeps build...

his cell is about a 10 gallon center console, all teh room you could want.

I'll be doing something similar soon and using the msd pump. I figure if its mounted properly, plumbed properly and vented properly, it'll be safe.

right now my stock tank is right behind the front seats.

Looking back when I first had the stock tank in the back, I wish I wouldn't have cut the floor open. When I first had the fuel filler on the side, I crushed it in. Couldn't save that body area to fill the tank and thought about the long run, so I cut the back half off. I switched to a small fuel cell at the same time and never looked back. If you're gonna trailer it, less sheetmetal is better in my opinion. After the first huge dent, its all downhill after that.

i have the stock gas tank behind the front seats. I straped it down to the floor, and bolted a cage type rack over the rear section to the wheel wells. above the rack i have a spare tire mounted. it works well. although this is in a tj.

It deffinitly depends on what your plans are for your rig. I hate having the fuel cell in anything but a trail-only rig.

Just picked up one of Gen-Right's Comp TJ Tanks. Still holds 14 gallons, uses factory pump/hardware, includes the skid, and you gain 1in of vertical ground clearance, and can push the axle back up to 6 in. [More with smaller axles]. :grinpimp:

I'll still be able to keep the rear cargo area of da TJ, and it will keep the COG lower as well.
