Hey guys, great site w/ lots of good info. I am going to install a 2.5" OME set of coils on my 06 sport. I purchased take off front and rear trackbars off ebay and my plan is to cut them in the bandsaw and lengthen them with 4130 tubing rather than use a trackbar bracket or buy adjustable tb's. Has anyone else done this or do you forsee any problems with my idea?

One problem I see is that they are fixed length. There is no adjustability to "fine tune" the axle centering. You've got to get the measurement right the first time and there is no compensating later for spring sag.

I personally would rather see an adjustable track bar or a complete assembly made from scratch rather than cutting and lengthening a stock bar.

amen to that brother , I wouldn't want to driving next to you on a curvy road when that shit breaks. resell that ebay stock stuff and purchase some Johnny Joints or - Super flex joints and use some good tubing - nust do it right the first time.

I have seen an adjustable tb with a threaded sleeve like on a tie rod end or drag link. Chrome moly should be as strong as those. I hear of a lot of problems with the tb brackets and on the adj. bars the joints needing replacement often. The factory joints seem to hold up well. I probably will only need to lengthen the rods by 1.5" or so. I would not think in that short of a length the tubing would bend or break but thats why I am asking for more experienced opinions. So if the tubing slides over the bar for say 6" on either side of the cut and is welded all the way around will there be that much stress on the joint? I realize it would not be adjustable but I can slide the sleeve over the bar and center the axles, tack the sleeve at the proper length, then remove the bar and fully weld it. Anyone have any more thoughts or suggestions.

Dude use a heim joint with a decent shaft length and make yourself some adjustables problem solved. It is not worth fabbing that shit up several times over the life of the vehicle.

You are right....you have to get it right the first time. Measure twice, cut once.

with all the time you going to spend making this sleeved bar you could just as easily make a fully adjustable bars.. or buy some...
That being said the front bar must be bent unless your planning on relocating your bracket on the axle side. When I do my 1-tonne steering I'll be building a new track bar with a Jonny joing and relocating the mount to the top of the axle.
