hey guys I'm new to Mtn. biking. So I recently bought me a hard tail to get into the swing of things this summer. Its a '01 specialized rockhopper comp with disk brakes and a judy fork. Is there any upgrades I should do to it or just ride the hell out of it tell I've been riding longer. Also you guys know any good trails around the Sacramento area besides salmon falls.
THANKS,
JON

Great advice on the shoes and pedals. Also get a basic repair kit and make sure you know how to use it. Most shops give free maintenance clinics that will teach you things like fixing a flat and how to keep the bike working. Call around.
Get a helmet!!! :vader:
Can't help you on the trails, sorry. If no one chimes in, talk to the shops. If they cool enough to do maintenance clinics they're likely to offer some rides as well.

What Kyron and Nasvik said. When you start breaking parts you'll know what to upgrade. Other than that have fun.:D

definately a helmet and gloves and ride the shit out of it.... the tool kit and working knowledge of the bike are also a must, unless you like walking home carrying your bike....
just ride within your limits and don't push too hard, build up your skills and endurance to help aviod injury...but if you do eat shit, be sure to post pics :D

sick, i just got that same bike, i love it!!! the only thing i have done to it yet is put a new front tire on it, its a WTB, i really like it. the tires on that bike suck balls, at least for the riding i do. i'm also gonna go get some new petals today, but i'm geting BMX petals cause i do quite a bit of dirt jumping and stair gaps and general shit that i really should use my BMX for, but the mountain bike is more fun.
oh ya, and i'm getting a new front wheel soon, cause my friend taged mine with a go-cart yesterday, broke one spoke, and really messed up the rim :mad3: buy its cool cause they might warantee it, or he'll pay for it

Yeah the bike is pretty dam nice I must say its fairly light, specially compared to those heavy ass freestyle bikes of old. I got some time pedals today, going try them out tonight and see how things go

Everyone is right, ride the tires off that thing. I've ridden with some freinds in Sac fer years. We ride the Auburn Ravine, head up the trail just past the bridge that crosses the American River and heads up to Cool (sorry I don't know the name of the bridge). You can try the Widowmakers entrance to the Murderer trail if your feelin' lucky, otherwise there are plenty of trails up there. Or.....you could drive to Cool and ride the Olmstead trail loop, parking is just behind the fire station, after ride Pizza and beer are right next to that parking lot! As a beginner remember to bring tools and tubes, and food and hopefully an experienced freind. Drop an email if you have questions.
