ok i have a 94 reg cab 4x4 chevy that in the past 40k has gone thru 3 trannys. it seems evey september i put a rebuilt transmission in. i have tried different shops to no luck. every time they rebuild the same tranny so i have come to the conclusion that either they are not fixing the problem or the case is hexed. the original tranny lasted 165k. and evey one after has lasted 14k or less. i have had the truck 3 years and towed 2 trailers. i have 315/70/16 mtrs and i already know with the 3.42 gears that is under geared. it seems my money goes to trannys before i can get the gears swapped in it. im about to be putting in a new gm good wrench tranny with a 3yr 100k warranty that covers labor if the tranny fails. my question is has anyone ever heard of or dealt with www.lowcostengines.com? i live in lubbock texas and scoggin dickey is suppost to be one of the biggest gm dealers in the nation and they can beat the prices they list on that site. heck ive been paying almost 1300 buck for each rebuilt tranny i have gotten. i know gm is reputable but what about this site?

Sorry to hear of your luck... Like you said most likely they aren't fixing the problem.
I have dealt with Scoggin-Dickey in the past, but never even heard of the link you posted.

scoggin dickey parts center can get me a tranny for about $1450 plus a core charge of $350 which will be refundable. the other place says $1125 plus core. im still trying to find out what the shipping will be to see if it will be cheaper. i like sdpc but it is a $325 difference. the warranty is the same so i guess ill know more next week. the dealership i have found out has several locations like 10 across the country i think so shipping could be pretty cheap i hope.

I am in the same boat... I won't buy another chevy with 4l60e.
The last time it was rebuilt.. (two months ago) They noticed the case was cracked. I had to get a new case+rebuild....
the sad thing something grenaded this week.. Good thing it has a warranty...

I just went through my 1st 60e in my truck at 163k, Im not even messing with rebuilding it. I picked up a working 96 80e local for $400 with the 241 attached, and its getting swapped in instead.
The 60e is a 1/4 ton tranny IMO, it won't last under heavy fullsizes with a lot of rolling mass.

i was looking into the 80e swap and ill be dammed if it isnt a pita. i havent been able to find diesel tcm or a harness to make it work with my 94tbi set up that dosent cost 800 bucks. i looked into swapping a nv4500 which is what i really want to do but that is also pretty costly. the gm tranny seems to be the middle road at this point. if you have the newer ls1 setups they make an adapter for the tranny to go to the 4l85e and you can reflash the computer to run it. on the obd1 truck though you have to have a stand alone from either a tbi truck, a 6.5 diesel or go with a new set up from b&M or tci. for the total cost of the tranny and the computer i have seen a few 6.0,tranny and transfercases on ebay with like 1000mi or less. stupid halfton junk...i will never own another half ton anything

I've got the same tranny and have been through several. But that was running large tires and off roading. And at one time I paid a shop to gear my truck to 5.13 and they installed 4.56. Running 46s the tranny didn't last but a couple hundred miles. The problem with mine was my torque converter was getting super hot to get the truck rolling in high range. After adding a deeper pan and a cooler and several upgrades to increase pressure, it has been doing great. I'm also about to add an autometer trans temp guage so I can keep it below dangerous temperatures.

I rebuild transmissions for a living. There are some upgrades available for the 4L60E. If you are using GM Reman units, or the run of the mill aftermarket shop, chances are youre getting a transmission that is "built down to a price". I always use transgo reprogrammer kits in my rebuilds, and a kevlar 2-4 band, HD input shell, a full set of bushings and thrusts, new pump guts, and a good quality convertor. The big vette servo is nice, but not a necessity. I also scan the car for codes before pulling the trans, and replace all of the solenoids while I am in there. I find that my rebuilds compare cost wise to the usual reman shops, and way below dealer jobs. I would not give up on this trans, but have a good quality rebuild job done, with the inexpensive upgrades, so that you are not just putting it back in the condition it was in before it failed.

a friend had the same problem in and out of the shop 3 or 4 times and it ended up being some wires. quick fix and problem solved.
