: Ultimate Tour, Pirate Style Part VIII - HEADCOUNT!!!!
Alright gang, we're no longer talking months, we're talking weeks - as in SIX of them - before the start of the greatest adventure in 4x4 history (well, the greatest one we've dreamed up at Pirate anyway LOL).
Along the way, we have stuff for everyone. Mild to wild trails. Pure rocks, Northwestern slop, competition mud racing, competition rock crawling, sand dunes, maybe even some friggin' snow. Now, let's do these trip leaders a favor & let them know who's planning to hit each of the stops. I've already got names from the last installment. Hoyden 04-19-2002, 06:47 AM Big Dogs in Gore, VA is not an option on those dates. It is private land that is only open for 4 scheduled events a year. The closest event (schedule-wise would be the summer slam August 3-4). Paragon, July 12 is good - what level trails will you guys be looking to run?

Whizzy 04-19-2002, 07:34 AM Hey TEX.
I am still looking for "The perfect Trail" to go on. I have a couple spots in mind, but nothing completely set in stone.
But you can probably count BIGBIRD and 350TOY in on the trail run.

Seems to be conflicting dates here. How about changing the B.C. run to the 10th and 11th? I'm sure we can find two trails to run. Since it will be the last stop there's no good reason to have it on a weekday.
Take my name off for the Rubicon, I couldn't get the time off. :(

The original schedule only had 1 stop prior to Whizzy's BC run. BenW suggested making it a 3-stop/3-day event. I say it's up to Whizzy & the crew planning on hitting his stop to decide if they can push theirs back since the 8th originally belonged to them. If they're okay with it, no problem :)

Why dont we make it the 9th, 10th, 11th then.
On the 9th, I will fire up the BBQ and everyone can sit back and drink cold canadian beer and eat some food then hit the trails first thing morning of the 10th.
Just a suggestion.

Hey now... those "potential projects" have allowed me to not spend a dime but parts-truck-profit on my little hobby in the last 4 years.... so I won't dare complain :cool2:
I'm in for the BC run so long as that isn't the long weekend in August.. so count me in until I stumble upon a calendar.
EDIT: Found a calendar, it's good to go.
the kanar shoestring funny rocks area of was in 1 day would be impossible...
that's a 2 day deal if you want to make it worth they're time...
and i do know the area fairly well also and would volunteer to step in if needed to help run it/lead/organize... god knows i have alot of spare time ;)
cmaddox 04-19-2002, 01:06 PM I am in for the 28th of June with DRM in monteagle.
MOFUGRA 04-19-2002, 01:47 PM come to alberta, we gots lots of mud and drumhellar which is like moab, but with a dinosaur museum to boot.
Whizzy: Where are we going oh fearless leader? :D Something good I hope?

Unless you've heard from bashed4runner or bigblaze, I agree w/ DSI, this is should be changed to 2 days in the Kaner/Shoestring/Funny Rocks area. There are plenty of trails. I haven't run either of the other areas, and it is doubtful I'd even be able to attend runs their, let alone lead. Unless someone commits to leading them, I say eliminate the Browns Camp and Walker Valley and Reiter Trails runs.
Make it 2 days, call it Little Naches area, minimum vehicle requirements: 33" tires and at least one locker, fullsize vehicles body damage imminent, other vehicles body damage expected.
i am not going to be able to set up the adirondack trip, my rig still has a long way to go my tow rig still has to have the motor swapped and i am in the middle of buying my first house. sorry guys but the house is a big thing. i should be able to make the paragon trip though and will have at least another rig prolly more
JackA 04-19-2002, 05:13 PM I am there. Will have 4-5 rigs with me. The heat is not a problem. Just bring lots-o-water. We're ready to get it.:D
GOFER 04-19-2002, 05:27 PM What 4 stops in NC?
Tellico I'd guess to be one of them.
I know some places also have access to some private stuff maybe we can help?
Elusive that Peppin?
Im4yotas 04-19-2002, 06:38 PM I could have anywhere from 1-15 rigs for the Hammerz and the Con. What trails are planned in JV? Sledge and Jack? Most of us will be able to run Aftershock at the most. Damn that ifs:flipoff2:
I'm sure you could get a few Benders to lead the Hammerz trails.

I would suggest Uwharrie, and pray for rain. If anything else, Uwharrie is good for a family run with the occasional great obstacle thrown in for good measure. From what I hear, there has been quite abit of carnage up there the last few weekends.
It's too bad that NC isn't scheduled for the end of May, first of June weekend. There are at least 30 guys from www.s10-4x4.org planning a run up at Uwharrie that weekend, and wouldn't object to a few guys joining. That trip is already a sure thing. If anyone would like to ride along with them, PM me and I'll get you some contact info.
Whizzy, you thinkin about turnin that stop into a PBB North party? heh heh If anyone has an empty seat, I'll make a run up there.

i've been to Uhwarrie a few times...i'd say skip it with a capitol :rainbow: ....... El Lamo ...comprende?
little or nothing to wheel for built rigs (well built.....no....nothing if you run 35's and a locker) , w/ a tone of Quads and Motorcycles wizing around like flies.
there must be better sheet than that in NC
Locomigo 04-19-2002, 11:48 PM Tex,
For the Rockies expedition, are you talking running through Colorado?
If so, what kind of trails are you looking for:
* scenic and serene (doubt it)?
* hardcore and high break shit potential?
* something in between?

I agree Uwharrie is a nice place to camp but offers little more than dust in yer eye.
There are decent trails there we have done some hiking and found many but they will most likely never get re opened :(
NC Hmmmmm Tellico for sure, Little Buffalo (Robinsville) not NC but way close is Beasly Knob. Those are three of the more public areas that come to mind. I know of a few others that are fun but they are private invitation only type of things.

If you're willing to set something up, I say wherever & whatever appeals to ya. If you & your pals are unlifted on L78 Mud & Snows, I see no need for you to be responsible for setting up a hard-core, break schit run. On the other hand, if hardcore is your thing, go for it. Regardless, it needs to be something you & your friends would enjoy :)

Also, here's a thought that I hope y'all won't find too :rainbow:
Anyone know someone would could donate a banner that would travel the entire length of the "tour"? I figured all the participants along the way could sign it & then when it's all over we could see who all took part. Just a thought.
TEX
Banner, or just a simple log sheet or log book....
Anyone want to take the time to see if we actually have an onbroken chain of people who will be going to every event? NO, not one person, but basically a chain of people going to at least 2 events so that a banner or log book can be passed on...
woody 04-25-2002, 10:53 AM I'm still in for co-leading the Attica portion...will likely have a handful of guys with me for the weekend of June 22-23, but they'll not run with the gang on Monday the 24th. I'm intending to arrive in Attica on Fri the 21st, wheeling the "casual" green and orange trails on Sat, the pink on Sunday, and the offsite-extreme on Monday for the Tour.
The offsite might also be an option for Sunday...that trail is really best for a smaller group (6-10 trucks), so if anyone makes it down early, plan on Sunday, the balance on Monday.
Guess I'd best stock up on Newfields/SuperBirfs/whatever now!! :D
John Deere Ranger 04-25-2002, 12:45 PM What are the locates on the NC runs? Tellico? like already mentioned Beasley Knob ain't that far from Tellico.
GJarrett 04-25-2002, 05:31 PM Why not try to set Tellico in on the schedule? That place is awesome! I wanna see some breakage on Lower 2 :D Tellico has Helicopter Pad, Guardrail, Schoolbus, Rockgarden on Lower 2, Slickrock, that ledge on the "moderate" Peckerwood trail (that I watched a fully locked fullsize rig with 48" Swampers have to winch up), etc. That should give you guys an idea of the definition of "moderate" on the Tellico scale.
I ran Schoolbus last week with the CNC 4x4 club and breakage included snapped tierods, front axles, track bars, lotsa sheemetal, etc.
It's got plenty of extreme, and for us non-extreme guys it is still one of the best fourwheeling areas I have ever run and it would be great to get a lot of people off this board out there and meet together. You can do it all at Tellico no matter how well your rig is set up to tackle it.

Thanks

I guess this tour only covers the cool stuff out west :(

Seems like when we first suggested this "tour", Tellico was to be the featured NC stop. Perhaps our trip leader can be of some assistance here? :D
BTW, I think I have the latest updates in place with Im4yotas in the RIGHT place now D'OHH!

FYI - anyone planning to head to Monteagle with me needs to check with me about your vehicle. The trails we are planning to run are NOT easy ones, and you should have at a minimum one locker, winch, and experience driving off road...

Probably riding with a buddy, or one of the guys from Tennessee Off Road, but miracles have happened - and I may have a rig of my own to drive yet again :p
jhama78 04-26-2002, 07:20 AM I may have a rig of my own to drive yet again
Yeah right...you'll just continue to gather parts to build a rig and never actually put it together...:D :flipoff2:
4x4Grrl 04-26-2002, 08:27 AM No offense Tex but, Hell we would all like to cram that much that much wheelin in one summer. :) Sounds GREAT in theory. But I don't believe you are looking at it realistically. These are just some things that are inevitably going to change the dates of your tour:
1) Driving to and fro to each destination. Do you really realize how far each place is from the other?
2) Sleep
3) Stop to eat
4) Actually spend time to talk to the people that are going to be your tour guides for each individual trips. And if you drink  you pretty much had give yourself an extra day for each destination.
5) Consider break down time.
I speak from experience of driving from destination to destination and a time frame it and it just starts to take all the fun out of the wheeling. You are not giving yourself enough time to wheel at each set a trails. Just way too much driving in between. IMO But good luck to ya. And have fun.
Hey Kelly - I don't think there is any one person planning to even attempt to make it to all of those events. Instead, it is more of a rolling trip with participants from here on PBB making it to as many as possible, but nobody planning to make it to each and every one.

Your hubby suggested the original schedule for the first 4 stops ;)
No offense taken, however I was hoping that if this were a problem someone would have spoken up a little sooner since these dates have been planned on for awhile :( That's where I'm counting on the individual trip leaders to speak up, and some folks have already done so with the WA portion of the trip & we've added a couple days there.
The other thing to consider is that not many folks will hit more than 2 stops. I agree that if someone wanted to hit 6 of them in a row, starting with the ones in the West, it would get pretty hectic. Unfortunately, I don't really know the travel distance between many of the stops not in my area. Though most of the ones in the Midwest are no more than 350 miles apart - a pretty easy 1-day drive, epecially with Interstate highways accounting for most of the miles.
The other thing to consider for those planning to only hit a couple of stops, is that you might be able to make arrangements to arrive a day early and/or stay a day late. Could give ya more BS time.
Bottom line, I hear what you're saying. But, we need to know how to apply that specifically & where :)

4x4Grrl 04-26-2002, 08:56 AM My mistake I guess I did not read into to it enough. Sorry.

The stops are great, but the dates/times spent and time inbetween are harsh on the body.
If he suggested those stops within that time frame I am sorry, my husband must be dilusional :D from making all of the plans of how many competitions he has to spot for and all the traveling he has to do from May to September.
4x4Grrl 04-26-2002, 09:20 AM Just one of my long journeys...I drove from Northern WA towing the Cruzah home it took me 17 hrs and I was haulin ass. To get home take a shower, repack and go wheelin on the Rubicon that I could handle. If I had to do that again just a few days later to try and wheel I would probably fall asleep at the wheel.

Well, now that I think about it, I don't know that he specified the dates.
Here's how it all worked, I suggested the tour & then everyone suggested where we should go - he was one of the first to jump in with WHERE. So, then we took all the stops & lined them up in geographical order (sort of LOL). Mine was the only one originally in there that had a FIRM date since it's a competition. So, we started adding days in front of my stop for the stuff that was to be first, and added days after my stop for stuff coming later.
Then, we sort of waited around for anyone to protest the dates & not too many did. Those that did were accomodated wherever possible. And I think a couple of guys actually suggested decreasing the travel time for some of the stops in the Utah area if I remember correctly. We also squeezed in the Farmington stop recently.
If some of these are too close together, I suspect the problem may be in that it took awhile to nail down trip leaders for some of these stops - some, we're still waiting on & if we don't get them, I guess we'll have to cancel those stops :(

LostIt 04-26-2002, 09:38 AM Looks like I am going to have to bail on Disney and Clayton because I'm supposed to move into my new apartment that week :(
bigjeepinYJ 04-29-2002, 09:42 PM TEX,
Count me and my bro in for the Attica trip. Send some of the guys this way. I will have the rig rolling by then.... May be coughing a little (Carb) but it will have all the goods. We are about 2 hours from attica. And if nothing fails we will prob. stay on for TN. Later.
XtrmTJ 05-02-2002, 09:09 AM Count me in for the Aug. 7th Centrel Washington run.:D
:jeep: __(OIIIIIIIO)__rOkOn:usa:
XtrmTJ 05-02-2002, 09:17 AM Sorry, 1-3 rigs:D
Whitewater 05-02-2002, 10:26 AM Tex, I'd like to set up a backup leader for the Rubicon. I will be on an island in the middle of the Pacific a week before the scheduled trip and should something happen I don't want to leave everyone high and dry. I notice Phil (Sillyneck) is signed up for the run, he knows the trail well and if he's willing maybe he could take care of this. If not I will recruit someone else.
madmarx 05-02-2002, 11:13 AM Hey David, put me down for Monteagle. I'm pretty sure my CJ qualifies as hardcore enough...
ozarkjeep 05-02-2002, 01:39 PM Im about 50/50 on the Disney stop, since its midweek, depepnding on the work schedule I might not be able to take off.
I dont recall ever signing up for the Gilmer TX stop either?, but thas ok, since its cancelled!
Tankota 05-02-2002, 03:25 PM Anyone gonna consider hitting Rimrock in the Wa cascades? It is only about 40 minutes from funny rocks/kaner.
cmaddox 05-02-2002, 05:48 PM Can we get some more specifics on the June 30 to July 4th runs. I would not be able to stay out that entire time, but I would meet up for Tellico if you had a date scheduled for it. Since the Monteagle trip is on the 28th and tellico is fairly close it would make sense to have tellico on the 30th, and be easy for me and maybe others to make both.
Im4yotas 05-02-2002, 11:36 PM Who has been to the Hammerz during that time of year (June)? It seems like it would be too hot for comfort, and too hot for a lot of the V8 guys (or the rest for that matter).
TJBob 05-03-2002, 09:59 AM Count me in for either Attica IN, or Slade KY. Not sure which one yet, but I'll be at one of them.

How hard core are you going to be on the "winch part" My winch money was redirrected by my wife (at her chest :) ) so the winch ferry has missed my house yet again. Depdog , BigJbear and Keith are use to dragging me through what the truck can't make. The rest is cool. 5 years experiance. 35's and locked both ends and plenty of spare parts and tools. Course the pig weighs and estimated 5500lb

rockzooki 05-03-2002, 04:52 PM since the tour is going to be in the area, and nothing's scheduled for jul 5,6,7, then how about checking out the West Virginia Childrens Charity Off Road Jamboree that weekend?

they will be around 100 or so rigs there, and a few serious trails.
YJ4RoX 05-06-2002, 11:07 AM Im with rokzooki, if you wanted to replace the July 6th ride. The WV charity ride would be nice. Great camping, good wheeling, plenty of:beer:

Nolen, I'll see what we can round up for Clayton. Were you guys planning to hit Frieling's or just the South side of Clayton (ABC, Jim & Juanita's, Snake Pit and Lower Power Line)?
Hell, I can tear it up down there with the best of them (literally). The north side stuff is not familiar to me though.

The best loop is to go down J and J/ABC then out Snake Pit and Up the hill on Lower Powerline.
Killer loop!
Sorry I can't make it, I am adding 2 cylinders....
