Did a search and didn't come up with much on this. I'm thinking about getting a used ford diesel to pull my jeep with. Can you guys give me any info on stuff I should stay away from and look for in a good truck. I'd like a manual, but I've heard fords manual isn't that great. Do some have the nv5600? Should I get a 1 ton or do you think 3/4 ton would hold up pretty well.

Thanks,
Casey

what year? in any case definetly get the manual over the auto... the diesel will eat the auto for lunch after a while towing.

Probably 98 to 01. Is one year better than the other. I like the new body style and I hear they aren't going to change it until 2006.

I have a '99 Superduty PSD F-250 4X4 with the 6 speed manual and am very happy with it! I would definitely go with the manual tranny. I tow about 9K lbs. regularly and hit the mountain passes here in Colorado at 65 mph. About 20 mpg empty and 15 or so fully loaded. The later Superduties have the HP turned up a bit more than the earlier ones. The F-250 and the F-350 share the same GCW so I don't think you really need the 350 unless you just want it. FWIW the 2002 Superduties have a Dana 60 front axle (4X4) instead of the 50. You only got the 60 on the 350 duallies and up on the earlier ones.
Later,
Steve

You should do some research HERE (http://forums.ford-diesel.com/ubbthreads/) first. There will be more than you'll ever want to know. You'll find out the good and the bad.
