: powertrax lockers on a 38" tires
well let me give you guys the download... i am in the midst of building my 1 tons and well lets be honest i am as poor as they come...you selling this and that to buy parts for my build-up,well i am almost all that is left is some new brakes and some full float shafts and lockers .now i was thinking of going with those powertrax not the lock rites the newer ones supposed to be a lot quiter ,oh ya i drive it daily so i dont want a spool now i had detroits in my 44 and 9" they were great offroad but sucked ass on the street and hywy so how are these powertrax and can the hold up 38-39 swammpers also they will be 35 splined front and rear.
just something to slap in while the electrics come out and i DO NOT want arb's or those cable deals
thanks much guys

aaronlosey 04-19-2002, 11:25 AM i loved my lockrites, i think they are better and more simplistic than the other powertrax no slip, or whatever they call them. i think the lockrites are stronger and cheaper.
Welby 04-19-2002, 11:54 AM Who cares about quiet if you have 38's? The No-Slip is just a glorified Lockright. I just got my TJ back, had a Detroit installed in the rear, and it's alot milder mannered than the Lockright was in my YJ....
So if you think the Detroit was bad on the street.... :D
norcalXJ 04-19-2002, 12:10 PM the powertrax no-slip has alot of play in it. so when you give it gas it has a delay then it catches. It is realy bad on the u-joints.
i dont know i have a buddy who has 36's on his scrambler and he says its perfect especially on the hywy and as far as bein quite i dont care about the noises i had lockrites once before in my cj-7 holy shit were they loud
as far as detroits i will not touch them not for 500$ each thay suck on the hywy and taking turns at intersections your front end pope up.
i may just wait until the electrics come out:confused:
WheelingPiazza 04-19-2002, 03:30 PM You do know that the Powertraxs is the same design as the lockright if your talking about the ones that you dont remove the carrier to install.
They are not guarenteed for anything bigger then 31s. And personally after going thru three of them I wouldnt install them.
I have run limited shits, Lock Right, Detroit Easy lockers, Now I run full detroits fornt and rear.
I wouldnt go back if you gave me one of those POS'S
FOr the front there ok, But for the rear F that. and on 38s your just asking for it to break.
The road maners of my Lockrights/detroits Sucked, Clank POP and your over three lanes.
My detroits are really nice, Very predictable and I dont make lanechanges and I drive a 5. I drove a older harder full detroit in the 5 and it was fine, I didnt even notice it was there. Now thats up front and theres a newer version of the full detroit in the rear..
DONT waste your money on the lunch box lockers. Look on ebay for a detroit for now, then when the electrics come out get one of those and sell off your detroit.
RockReadyXJ 04-19-2002, 03:35 PM i don't know what detroit you had but the new detroit "soft" lockers are alot quiter than the old version, i have one my mt XJ and am about to take it out of the rear 44 in the XJ and put it in the front 44 in my YJ
Boston Mangler 04-19-2002, 04:04 PM "If your poor like me and want a nice strong locker like me, weld up those spiders like me!"
Welded mine up and love it!
One of the best things is you KNOW what it is going to do and WHEN. None of this random clanking and banging!

hey wheeling thanks alot thats what i really asked is that would that powertrax take a 38 inch tire i kinda new it wouldnt well i guess i will just wait it kinda sucks that i will have 60's front and rear 35 splined full floaters and no lockers i know what the detroits are like and i don't see myself buying them again i guess i will just wait till the new electrics come out damn i was hoping the powertrax were better then the lockrites they are so cheap like 330$ my cost well i appreciate it i will keep looking ...
thanks
mangler hahahahaha u know i wish i could just do that but i need it to be a little freindly on the street thanks anyways
ahhhhhhhhh im just gonna wait till the new shit comes out ...
XJEric 04-19-2002, 07:22 PM Spool it!! I daily drive my spooled rig and love it. After about a week I didn't even know it was back there except for the chirp around tight turns. I've had lockrights and hated them. I'll never go back to an automatic locker for the rear. Spool or welded is the only way to fly!
hmmmmmmmmm!
awwwww ill just wait till the good shit comes out then splurge!
see i don't wanna arb's and those ox i heard have tons of problems with the cable adjusments or where the body comes into contact...
What is all the hype about the electric lockers. Guess no more creek crossing for you :flipoff2: Just kiddin. The D 60 Ox is just around the corner, why don't you want it. Is it the hefty price tag?
when the electrics come out ill be all over that shit the cables have tons of probs all my buddies run them yes in d44 but they have problems..
SeanP 04-19-2002, 09:29 PM Shawn,
I really cannot believe that your shit isn't running yet ;)
I would skip the drop in style lockers. I had the no-slip with 31s and there was tons of backlash and driving on the highway was a bitch when applying or letting off throttle. My detroit in my 9" is perfect.
You must get a locker that replaces the carried like the detroit, ARB or OX. As far as ox, I have been monitoring these pretty closely. You must route the shifters right and the cable will likely stretch a bit at first, which means that you will need to tighten it. But after that it is bullet proof. Instant spool.
See ya

crawlinTJ 04-19-2002, 10:17 PM Well to date I have broken the cross-shaft, pins and 1 side gear (teeth) on a Lockright, all at different times.
My gf has broken a coupler on her No-Slip.
Now these were both in a D35...but they were only behind a 4-banger and 33s, and no excessive throttle was being used at the time of breakage.
And I see about 1 or 2 Lockrights/No-Slips come through the shop every month that have some form of them broken. Now I have no idea what the story is behind each one, but in 7 months of working there, I've yet to see a Detroit come back in broken.
Unfortunately until I can get the cash for a Detroit, I'll have to run a Lockright in my D44 I'm swapping in. I don't want too, but that's way it goes.
Personally, theres no way unless there was no other locker on earth that I would subject a No-Slip or Lockright to 38" tires and decent gearing.
WheelingPiazza 04-19-2002, 10:30 PM There is a 35 spline detroit on EBay for 300 right now

yo sean well i was wheelin a bit with th rc44 and a 9 but the pinion was too low andwith my style and soon to be a 5.9 in my whore i might as well build up 60's so i posted them up on ebay got 5 geez and well the rest is history got a 60 from a ford for the front and bought a tera 60 housing and gonna slap on 14 bolt spindles for the rear. but i had full detroits in the other axles and well ahhhhhhhh they were great wheelin but on road the sucked more then my girlfriend so maybe i can be a guinea pig for some company to try out the electrics im gonna make some calls .
and the locker up on ebay is at 400$ now there nuts brand new its 430$ well if anyone has any better ideas for me im all ears guys
thankx again
:usa:
Kensoffroad 04-21-2002, 12:52 AM We have the powertrax no-slip & 37's with no problems. They are pretty quiet lockers. We've had ours in for a year & a half now & we're satisfied with them. We also have stock axles & the cherokee gets wheeled hard.
TJ Chick
wow great thanks you know i spoke to a bunch of guys running them and thats what they also told me that they are great and quiet and they really behave well on the road i dont understand maybe these guys are all talking about those lockrites thanks again.... anybody else have anything to add...
