Just got back from a three day trip on the con and I'm hooked! currently looking for a "rig" so i can join the fun. i thought i would share a few observations from a first timer and you guys can laugh at me.
Its crazy what these rigs can do. i would not have thought it was possible for half the lines people were taking. finally a motor sport that's not about bling or $$$$$. there seems to be a pride in DIY and how much of a rig you can build for the fewest $. i love the ingenuity and can do attitude of almost everyone I saw. the comoderty of everyone i ran across. We broke a front axle on our 44 and many people offered to help, make sure we were ok, and gave us advice where on the trail we could get a replacement. (as it was we continued on in 3 wheel drive) WOW, more drunks in one place actually doing something. i'm not a big drinker, but it was an impressive site.

the bad: well i didn't see anything terrible like driving off trail or straight littering but seeing a no rollbar or weak rollbar with no doors and no seatbelt did make me a little nervous. i"m not one to tell others what to do but i much rather help someone with a broken rig "goin for it" than helping someone with a broken head doin the same. Maybe someone can direct me to a thread about how to go about the safety issues when building a rig.
I also heard that there is some kinda "jeep thing" and that all jeepers are aholes and they wont give you the time of day if your not driving a jeep. well i did not run across that (yet) but im sure i will and im sure it will be kinda funny. Ive seen aholes in every walk of life. The jeepers that I did meet were cool and if we cant take some ribbin about what we do or don't drive than we should stay in our house always because its a scary world out there.

well that's my opinion at this early stage, lets see what some miles, some $$$, and some wrenching do to my opinion in a year.

biggest surprise, the fine, fine, girls of the Rubicon i saw!!!!!

let the comments fly!

There are aholes behind the wheel of every type of vehicle. I drive a Toyota and get a long fine with everyone. Sure we poke fun at each other but we still respect each other's rigs, its all good!

If ur looking for tips on building your rig up then you should look to the proper thread that represents your vehicle. If you go to the main page of the board you will see right at the top "4x4 Tech Talk" just select the thread for your vehicle type and get to reading. Need to keep this area of the board on topic with Rubicon Trail Talk only.

Welcome to the sport!

the jeep thing burns when you pee ;)
like Rockalot said, no brand of rigs are a jerk, just the owners.
Go out to the FOTR website and sign up and make sure you are doing everything right when you are out on the trail.

thanks for the feedback, not trying to take this off topic, i was on the Rubicon trail during the 4th of July weekend and it was great! thhttp://images.pirate4x4.com/forum/images/editor/separator.gif
http://images.pirate4x4.com/forum/images/editor/separator.gifanks for pointing me to the FOTR site. i definatly want to contribute what i can so others can enjoy this trail in the future. as far as the "jeep thing" i can take some ribbin from time to time, i'd be jelous too if it took me three times the $ to catch a toyota:laughing:

I have a 1947 Willys and an ATV....and to me...EVERYONE on the trail who's respecting the trail, the environment and insists on having a good time is a brother to me.

Oh....and the rigs....they may not look like bling....but the $ is there...in a functional way.

I dunno what sport you're talkin about, but I've got more money into to my CJ than all my other hobbies combined, easy! :D

wheelin cost $$$ ? shxt i thought this was going to be cheap. haha
i just wanted to share my thoughts as a newbie and see the feedback. Seriously my first trip on "The Con" and as impressed as i was with the different types of rigs i was also impressed by the people i met on the trail. Not the most beautiful bunch, but they could do the impossible (rigs and peeps)
