What you need to do is get a wire wheel, and clean the axle up enough to find the codes. It sounds like a hastle, but it will save you a ton of headaches in the longrun.

well i wire wheeled more of it and i found what seems to be the date? it was above all the others, it was 1 06 70 then 7A lil farther right. there was another code under it i cannot recall right now but it had way more letters and numbers in it.

Clean up the entire codes on the right axle tube. Then write them all down together. Goto the tech section here on pirate and read the BOM part in Billvista's D60 article. Then goto the dana website(or any other website with info and get the year/make/model of the axle. Then you can shop with ease from now on.

What you have is a 1970 Dana 60 from a 3/4 ton dodge truck. The initial housing assembly date is 12/10/69 and the final assembly (when the gears and brakes were put on) is 1/06/70. The BOM is correct, but no BOM site will have that number in their data base. They usually only go back to 1972-73-74 for trucks. You should be able to get shoes for your truck. I called the local autozone and they run 21.89 for a set.

If no websites have the bom, why does the dana website have it? I was bored, so I did a quick search like I always do. Google the bom, Danas website did come up.

search on that said it was a 69-70 K25, 4.56 gears an open diff.
