Ok guys which set up would be better to control the front axle? I have a rockwell up front with really soft leaf springs. The problem is the axle tends to walk real bad in reference to the frame, especially when I’m simply turning (hydro assist ram).
I’m thinking of using a what I think is called a pan hard bar (I have already read many posts in the archives) or making a two link bar on the front axle shaped like a Y . at the side with a one link I’ll put a large heim or similar on a shackle coming from a cross-member. the other two mounts are on the axle ofcourse.
I haven’t driven it much and don’t know if it needs an additional traction bar. The Y link would basicly be a traction bar right.
So how does the pan hard bar function in the front of a vehilce?
this is pretty much a mud pit vehicle and won't see a lot of rocks, so major amounts of articulation is not neccessary.

From what you've said in your post a panhard bar is by far the best solution to your problem. It will provide you with better axle control then the y-link.

just for clairification. is the pan hard bar the bar that runs parallel to the draglink in daniel's picture? if so is that the main part...make it parrallel to the draglink and close to the same length? that is what i've gathered from the search i ran. what if i used a tractor 3 point hitch bar...that's what it looks like in the pic.

why not just run stiffer leaf springs??
you said articulation is not a prob..but you have way soft springs???
I don't get it
get a set of procraps or somthing and it should help tons..

Yes the panhard bar is the bar parallel to the draglink. You want it to be the same length and angle as the draglink to eliminate bump steer. As for the tractor 3 point hitch bar, I don't know if that will work or not.

i am going to add more leaves to the packs, i have them sitting in the garage now. i'll probably try to add a pan hard bar as well too. do they help with spring wrap? i know that adding springs will help with this as well.

do they help with spring wrap
Not if you build it correctly. If you are adding a panhard bar to a leaf spring set up that is overly stiff you will over constrain the suspension and create a host of problems.

I have a cruiser on Rockwells with Stock FJ40 springs, and its fine on the road and off. I don't think you ned a trac bar, i think you have some prob with yer leaves...

You probably have either too long shackles, or possibly some ball joints/TRE's/heims going out. And lastly perhaps your spindle nut may be loose (if rockwells have them,I dont know). Just some suggestions that could affect a normal/common axle.
